The biggest gimmick possible, the only thing it does, is make a normal phone chunkier.

Surely that's more suited to you, with your legacy OS, software & 3 generations old mobile.

Leading the way in tech you are not.

I've decided I'm sick of big phones. The S23 Ultra is stupid, I've also not really gotten along with the Samsung so don't want another... I dropped it a while back and have fucked the screen.

So thats going off to Samsung for a replacement screen and I'll gift it to Emily to replace her ancient Pixel and I've just bought a Pixel 9a. Its new and sub £300, I can drop this once a year and replace it for the same money as a new high end phone. I don't game, I literally just need a phone with a good enough camera and nothing else.

Maybe I'm just getting old and boring but I really preferred having a separate camera/tablet/phone - each one had a job and did it well. Maybe I should have doubled down and bought something proper cheap and spent the difference on a nice pocket camera.

For years I wanted the Pixel Fold, I was subscribed to their BS updates a year before they released it then when it came it turned out they didn't do video via the USB-C, so I bought an S23U which did (they released the S24 2 days later and I never thought to check release dates so paid full price for the 23 doh)

I use Parsec on my work station which is unreal, in my head I was going to bop into work, plug my screens into my phone and use parsec to remote desktop to my work station, walk to a meeting and do the same... except its dog s**t and Samsung doesn't seem to support keyboards or a mouse properly so I've used it twice for that purpose, instead I just bought a small form factor desktop for each place I end up sitting.

Summary - big expensive phones are liabilities, computers are still better. Bring back snake.

It seems like a pixel fold is right up your street, you seem addicted to committing to doing things that give you grief.

It's possibly the worst phone I've owned in years.
It's decent when I'm on the p**n, I'll give it that, but otherwise, terrible.

Oddly I hated the Samsung after owning a Pixel for years before. I don't need/want infinite play time with icons and equally I don't want to buy into the apple ecosystem. Pixels are a great middle ground and all the google s**t works better on them than on the Sammy.

Until one of these companies can make an AI assistant that actually helps me do stuff I just want a phone.

How are your trousers holding up? I've got three pairs with holes in them because of the stupid sharp edged design of the S23 Ultra..

It's my fourth Samsung but seriously considering an iPhone next.

And you're literally a giant so therefore it stands to reason that your pockets must also be twice the size of mine.

I don't put it in my pocket for that exact reason. I was chatting to @Sir_Dave earlier and while talking I looked over at an old iphone SE - perfection. Give me that, but android so I'm not tempted to ruin my life for 3 months swapping everything to Apple and I would be a happy hobbit.

There's things that I just can't get on with, on the pixel, it's not customisation, I'm not really into that and I'm too lazy.

No ringer toggle in the slide down notification drawer - have to press the volume rocker and turn it on/off there.
In the phone app, you can't touch the recent call to dial, you have to press the phone icon to initiate the call.
The weather widgets are s**t

There's more, I just get depressed thinking about the price when I realise it's a downgrade.

My main issue is that in most phones you only get all the features if you get the biggest version. I'd love the S23 for it's size but with the S23U features.

I might get a second hand iPhone 16 Pro, see how I like and if not will be able to sell it without too much loss.

Another thing that is increasingly annoying me is how my wife's five year old iPhone easily hooks up to all cars with carplay and easily prints on our printer where my Samsung struggles to keep a connection with Android auto (if a car has it in the first place) and struggles to print without secundary apps and then still prints slightly fuzzy prints.

Wasn't the whole point of having Android that it would connect to anything everywhere all the time without Steve Jobs telling you you weren't allowed to use Bluetooth for that?

Rant over 😂

I've never had those issues, all my android have found all my printers fine, work on every car except my own fine, but I attribute that to Peugeot 😂
