Engine/Gearbox Mounts - Best options and where to buy?

Hey All,

Looking to replace all four mounts out of precaution (flexi’s gone) and I can tell the main lhs engine mount definitely needs doing.

Where to actually buy good mounts not made of chineseum? Where to buy OEM parts online? Any recommendations appreciated. Who even made the original mounts for Renault? Wasted my time trying Renault but it’s all gatekept, they were too busy, no-one phones back, they want your DNA, life history, blood sample. It really shouldn’t be difficult lol, what happened to parts departments!

Any help on any of it appreciated:)

OE Part numbers? So far I’ve worked out...
36664 - Lower GB Mount
33206 - Top GB Mount (under battery)
36828 - LHS Top Engine Mount.
???? - LHS Rear Top Engine Mount (I think)

Renault Parts Direct and KamRacing are my go-to's, they'll nearly always have the parts you want. Can also use code "rpdfree" for free shipping too.

Thankyou mate;)

Also interested, if people don’t use oem, what brand is thought to be best (if anyone has experience). I’d use Powerflex or similar but would like to keep lookinh stock.

I find that the TRW or FebiBilstein stuff works just as well as stock I've had no problems with them.

I fitted the Powerflex mounts to my 197, they are much stiffer but increase vibrations into the cockpit by a lot!

Oh, thanks for that, good to know…I’ll compare prices and have a think.

Really? Damn. Is that because you have all PFlex engine mounts and lower arm bushes etc or? You got the purple or black?

Hi @RS200SGP - if you can find Hutchinson mounts they are apparently the OEM manufacturer for the genuine Renault ones. You can usually even see on the upper engine mount where they have ground the Renault part numbers off :D

I am currently running them on all mounts apart from the upper torque arm which is a Febi Bilstein, as I couldn't find a Hutchinson one in stock. I am also running the metal Meg 2 version of the lower torque mount rather than the regular rubbery Clio 3 one. Links to mounts below:

Upper Gearbox: https://spareto.com/products/hutchinson-mounting-manual-transmission/538906

Upper Engine: https://spareto.com/products/hutchinson-holder-engine-mounting/586324

Lower Torque Mount: https://spareto.com/products/hutchinson-holder-engine-mounting/532c62

Upper Torque Mount: https://spareto.com/products/febi-bilstein-engine-mounting/173225

The above links might not be the cheapest place to source them but gives you all the info (part numbers etc) to try and find them elsewhere.

Re: powerflex, I ran one of their lower torque mounts for a while but reverted back to stock. Thus is the one I tried:

While it resulted in a lot less engine movement, it also came with a very noticeable increase in cabin vibration. And in my old age I found it too much for a daily, but YMMV.

From what I have read the powerflex insert that results in the most cabin vibration is the upper engine insert (even the softest yellow one), followed by the lower engine mount. Supposedly the upper torque arm insert results in reduced engine movement and minimal cabin vibration, so I might try that one next and see what that is like. Not sure what the upper gearbox insert is like but basically any stiffening of the mounts via powerflex will result in some level of increased vibration, just depends on your tolerance level! But depending on how shagged your current mounts are, even new fresh OEM ones will make a noticeable difference in my experience.

Thanks Guys, great info dump there, much appreciated;)(y).

I've had the car only a short time so not had much of a chance to work on it so still learning what's what. I replaced the discs/pads on the front but that's about it until now. I want to keep it as oem as possible (after all rare car) but I have no doubt that the upper mount movement helped cause the exhaust flexi's issue unfortunately. I also don't want a really rough ride either even as tempted as I am to buy some coilover's at some stage!

On Chazza's recommendation I went ahead and bought all Febi-Bilstein mounts so I'll fit them when they turn up and it's not gash outside.
