Clio Williams Project

It’s fine. I want to remove it to go through the cabling as it is shocking. Can tell it’s gone through various hands as it has been cut into for various fixes over the years. Want to tidy it up as well.

So small update today as was fighting bolts again. Got the ancillary loom out of the engine this weekend and will be testing continuity and giving it a tidy up. Removed the fuses and there is a little corrosion so need to clean this. Also removed a little more metal but forgot to get pics.

Have also found a large hole under the windscreen which I will need to fix. Spotted when I too the washer bottle out and saw a pile of rust sat there. So an extra hole to fix……..

So been looking at tidying the loom I brought home.

Looks like Stuart Little was peckish.

Started to retake clean it up. Also gave me a chance to cut out the knawed parts and solder in new pieces.

IMG_0340.jpeg

Still a fair amount to do.

Excuse the mess I am a slob.

Also removed all connections from the fuse box to remove the mild corrosion from the connectors and to also clean the fuse box.

Dodgy diagram of wiring positions.

So been a few weeks but today was the day the engine finally came out!

The gearbox was not the easiest thing to remove due to 2 annoying nuts underneath, but got there in the end!

And then mounted on the new toy!

Strip down of the engine to start next weekend! Plus will need to jet wash the engine bay now as well too see what I shall be dealing with in there, although at first glance it does not too bad.

Strip down of the engine started. Not liking the state of the water pump nor thermostat housing!

Also not sure if this looks right.

The step down between the tappets. Cannot find a picture of a head anywhere to see if this is normal.

So next week, remove head bolts (going to need the Hulk to help I think!). Will then be able to see the state of the pistons!!

Well it has been a while and the bottom end of the engine has been away being cleaned and bored. It looks so much better now.

Also new pistons purchased due to the state of the old ones and the reboring.

Just waiting for bearings to arrive for the crank to start the rebuild.

Always admire the mechanical and financial bravery with a project as in depth as this, good on you pal 👌

Unless they've already been restored, it seems like the majority of mk1 Williams and valvers that come up are all in this sort of shape now, a step too far for me but will be keeping a keen eye on your rebuild mate, all the best 👍

Cant quite believe it now but I went to see a Williams 2 for sale in Leeds in 2008. He wanted £2750 for it but would take £2500 !!!! Never bothered and bought my first 182 instead!

Also. Never seen a F7R crank before. Is it standard or from a later model?
The Clio F7R 700 crank is from the F8Q 1.9 diesel engine
The later Mégane F7R 714 & the RS Spider F7R 712 engines have the F9Q diesel crank which is the same as the 1*2 F4R

Then you've got the early Mégane F7R 710 but I can't remember exactly what that crank that used but was different to all the others

Interesting info! Thanks for that.

Read a few threads on the forum regarding cranks. Typically, alot of contradictory information.

From my understanding ph1 cranks are the heaviest of the 1*2 gen (haven't seen photos).
Ph2 172 is the lightest (lesser counter weights).
182 increases the counter weights.
With 197/200's having the best counter weight package (best for high revs).

From the pictures if seen. This F7R crank looks similar to a 182 crank.
