A friend has a clio sport on her drive which has been unused for about a year after it developed a phantom battery drain. It needs to go but I'm not sure exactly what it is or its value. Running fine and in daily use before this fault. A few mechanics looked but said it needs an car electrician to find the fault. Minor dent to one side as pictured which might pop out. Needs minor tidying but looks original and complete. Reccaro seats but minor mold on the inside.
Any idea what its worth as either a potentially easy project to go back on the road or as the base for a track car? Thanks

You’re going to need a load more information before any gives you an indication of value…things like:
1) Mileage
2) history, when were the belts last done
3) MOT
4) Recaro condition, these suffer with bolster wear
5) Any modifications etc

As for the ‘minor’ dent, what’s the blue at the bottom of the panel? Has it already had a replacement wing in the past? Looks like blue paint. That dent won’t pop out without some remedial pain work in my experience.

It’ll be the alternator. For some reason they s**t themselves and start drawing a voltage. Not sure why - a couple of people have suggested it starts thinking they are a motor and draw a current to spin themselves.

The easy test is to disconnect it and see if it still has the voltage drain.

I’ve had 2 alternators go that way.

Aside from that it just looks rough. If that dent is your idea of minor I’d hate so see a serious one 🤣

Last mot was passed may 2024. Milage 110,000. No idea about service history. Don't think its been modified in any way. Didn't look too closely at the seats, I hadn't realised it was unlocked until I was about to leave. I was there to move a tv and fix a kitchen cupboard.
I'd assumed the dent was at knee height and the sill trim had come loose but looking again it does look like the trim is loose due to damage lower down thats why its loose. I think the blue is the plastic clips that hold the trim on. Its not from a heavy impact. It looks more like catching a bollard while parking.

I'd read it might be the alternator but I'm not getting too involved in fixing this. Its owned by a now retired dinner lady who has bought another car with zero interest in a clio project. Its just pointless leaving it sitting on her drive hence the question on here.

Usually the rectifier diodes which convert the current from AC to DC, when they go bad they act like a two way valve and allow current to back draw.

Can actually see some big amp draws with a thermal camera.

Yeah, that's the right explanation rather than my shitty attempt 🤣

I’m thinking about converting my 182 back to N/A meaning I’d sell the engine, turbo kit etc but no idea what it’s worth.

Engine was built by @GrahamS and Alex at Awmotorworks back in 2020.
ED turbo kit with Garrett GT2560R turbo.
13 row mocal oil cooler.
Engine Machined and rebuilt from a 23k mile block and perfect condition cylinder head
Decked and honed so standard bore size
Drilled for 3/8npt turbo oil drain fitting
Genuine Renault bearings throughout
ARP rod bolts
Hastings piston rings
197 valve springs
Megane 225 headgasket
Megane keywayed crank pulley
New dampened pulley
Supertech intake and inconel exhaust valves
Freshly cut valve seats
Genuine valve stem seals
All genuine Renault gaskets
Vapour blasted sump/cambelt cover/engine mount/ thermostat housing/cam cover
Genuine water pump
Pierberg oil pump
NGK BCR8ES spark plugs
I fitted a new Cambelt kit in January this year.
I reckon it’s done around 3k miles if that in 6 years.
Runs a Gen90 that I would sell with it. It would literally be a drop in and fire up solution for someone.
I could even sell a rebuilt gearbox with a gripper for £1850 along with it.

What do people think it is worth?

Standard head, cams, pistons and rods?

Maybe £1k for the long block if it's cosmetically nice too, £800 for the turbo kit and £600 for the ECU

That’s good to know, in my head I was at £2.5k the lot or £4k inc the gearbox.
It is standard pistons and rods. Made 248hp when mapped. I’d also sell it dressed with the cup alternator setup and loom so you could throw it in. If bought with the gearbox would also come with the RTS turbo clutch and lightened flywheel.

If going back to standard I’d be tempted just to swap the Meg gasket and use the rebuilt engine. Easy enough just to bung the hole for the oil return and better than going off to buy a new unknown engine.

I agree, but in this case I have the engine out of my race car which i have built and used, it’s also the engine out of this car originally.

that engine was built fully OCD as a OEM+ no expense spared job. They're supertech valves and 197 valve springs shimmed at the supertech valves are a touch longer. Head otherwise standard. Took a long time to source a good one.
Block was unbeliavably good compared to the usual crap out there.

4k for everything ready to drop in is decent I'd say with minimal hassle

Fair play then!

If you split I’ll take the ECU. I could probably do with more power than I can run on the EFI boost control module and standard ecu.

Cool, I’ll see how it goes and bare that in mind 👌🏻

Hello All,

We are now expecting a baby so I doubt I will get much use out of this post summer. Wanted to post it to the hive mind here on a value before listing it. I have a track day at Donington booked for start of May then likely list for sale so someone can enjoy it over the summer. Its got a lot of really nice bits on it and is a well sorted car but the due belts and bodywork let it down.

I am thinking the following:

- £5,000 including everything (£4,500 for someone here)
- £4,000 without the seats (buyer to bring their own, will keep the mounts) or spare 2 turinis

Clio 182, 97,800miles

I bought it last year and spent a lot getting some of its niggles sorted. Passed MOT February with no advisories. Just back from croft where it did 200 miles on track with no issues at all and goes really well. EFI parts tuned it and it made 189hp with dyne print out.

Bad Bits
- Cambelt is due on age (it’s only done 4800 miles since it was changed 2021)
- it was apparently repainted but unless stevie wonder did it, i dont buy that, theres lacquer peel on a couple of places and on the carbon bits
- rear sill and floor pan was welded last year (it was rough) and it hasn’t been prepped and painted
- airbag light was coded out but its come back on after i had the UCH out

Time might be coming to sell my 182. Hate to do it but might be losing my storage space.

It sat for 6 months outside over the winter and is sadly needing some summer loving on the inside and outside. It has no MOT, exhaust needs rehanging and has a cracked windshield (no idea how it happened sat on the driveway). 150k miles.

cambelt and alt Belt done in 2023 with Mick at Diamond Motors.

Can I get £2500 for it??

Last used it at the ring in summer 2025 and it was an absolute blast. It’s an awesome little car, just feeling sorry for itself at the moment. With a few hours tidying up and a refresh for a new MOT, I’d it back to the ring with zero concerns. Yellow Dot Recaros and frames are probably worth £1500 alone. But will need a clean up and it’s “damp” in there. Would come on 15” Superleggeras.

After 10 years of ownership I am thinking of parting ways with my R26 for something different.
With prices varying so much I would like some idea of value.
It's in glacier white and has the lux pack so full leather recaros etc.
Mileage is 82000
Full decals
Bodywork in excellent condition
Will need cambelt in 2 years
Not serviced as much as it should but plenty of history, service book and 2 keys present.

Any sort of advice would be appreciated

Thinking about selling my 182 to the point where I've written up an advert, but I've now got no idea what it's worth:

Renaultsport Clio 182 Cup - Petrol Blue

- Trophy Turinis with NS-2Rs
- ITG Maxogen carbon induction kit
- Yozzasport cat-back exhaust
- Leather Recaro Trendlines on Trophy mounts
- Cup dampers and Grams Sport springs all round
- AP Racing Pro 5000R front brakes w/ 300x28mm 2pc discs
- PBS ProTrack front pads
- HEL braided lines
- TTV billet lightened flywheel
- Fully rebuilt JC5-129 with Quaife LSD
- Sachs performance clutch
- BTT body-coloured washer blanks
- PMS carbon shifter
- Sabelt Renaultsport alcantara steering wheel
- Titanium (actual titanium, not just a look) wheel bolts
- Black insert Xenons
- Rear wiper delete

#1 (with letter from Renault, which must add at least a fiver) of 29 PB cars, currently on ~135,000 miles

The good:

To get it up and running again in 2025, it got the following: belts, dephaser pulley, water pump, spark plugs, filters, oil, front pads, rear pads, 1 front caliper, front ABS sensors, full 4-wheel refurb with brand new NS-2Rs, and new UCH, all at 132,800 miles at The Clio Man in Littlehampton in May 2025. Fully detailed as much as possible inside and out, including ceramic coating to bodywork and wheels (since topped up on the body) very shortly after that.

Suspension refresh was next in June 2025, again at The Clio Man. New Cup dampers, SNR top mounts, Grams Sport springs, new spring platforms, new bump stops and new Powerflex ARB bushings.

November 2025 brought significant upgrades to many key mechanical aspects: AP Racing Pro 5000R front brakes with 300x28mm two piece discs, Ferodo DS2500 pads, RBF 660 fluid, HEL braided lines, TTV lightweight billet flywheel, PMS carbon precision shifter and linkage, Sachs Race Engineering clutch with organic friction plate, new driver's side driveshaft and carrier, fully rebuilt JC5-129 with Quaife QDF6M LSD by Stephen McMenemy, Hubcentrics spacers front (18mm) and rear (10mm). Everything there was bought new, bar the gearbox.

Following that I had it setup including corner weighting at NADUK for fast road use, where some rear beam fasteners were also refreshed. I also replaced the OE wheel bolts with Rison titanium bolts.

Not that what I've spent really matters to what it's worth to someone else, but that lot above is £12,000+ of parts and effort, I always buy new where possible, and it hasn't really wanted for anything mechanically as I've brought it back to life. I've tried to upgrade rather than replace where budget allows in the right parts of the car, especially the powertrain, and my end goal has always been an OEM+/Clubsport sort of spec.

2026 hasn't seen any major work yet, but it has had a new starter motor and heatshield, and a new alternator and aux belt. The starter went, then the alternator went not long after.

I also recently swapped to brand new PBS ProTrack front pads after getting very fed up with the DS2500s I originally paired with the new brakes. They performed very well but squeaked horrendously at low speed.

Project thread is here: https://cliosport.net/threads/petrol-blue-182-1-29-trying-to-remedy-6-years-of-neglect.852711/

Minor work that currently needs doing:

Front arch liners (I have some off another car, just haven't fitted yet)
Leak from the washer bottle (think a pipe came off during the alternator replacement).
TC/ABS light comes on from time to time. Think a reluctor ring might be going.

The not so good:

If you want a factory fresh exterior then the bodywork needs a thorough going over. I recently discovered the car had a knock in 2014, and several body panels were resprayed (front and rear bumpers, rear hatch), and paint over paint rather than being done properly, all prior to my ownership.

Ideally the car gets a full back to the metal respray, including any minor repairs, to fix the front stone chips and various minor scratches and scuffs, and remove the paint-on-paint repairs, to get it back to better than factory. You'd also want a new windscreen scuttle, wiper arms and mirror housings. I've explored the process of getting that all done with a proper restoration-focused company if anyone wants the (very expensive) details. It's 22 years old now and the car still gets properly used, and the state of the bodywork reflects that.

The underneath of the car could now do with a refresh too. That was going to be this year's focus along with the bodywork. I've had that assessed and I think it needs: front arms, subframe and rear beam shot blasted, strengthened and powder coated. New OEM exhaust heatshields, or a better solution in custom shielding and/or a partial wrap. Rust convertor and preventative coating on the rest of the underside where needed. Possibly cerakote the exhaust.

The interior is quite rough. The dash plastics have done the typical thing and need to be refreshed or replaced. I'd also planned to replace the carpets, retrim and create new upholstery around the new shifter tower, maybe get a new steering wheel, and replace the front seat subframes since they've seen better days. The seatbelts also need a clean.

It also squeaks and rattles as you'd expect a 22 year old French car to. There are annoying rattles and squeaks from the shifter, the exhaust heatshields, the interior reading light, both front windows, and the driver's side door trim.

Spares:

PMS top mounts and brace (used)
Front bump stops (new)
Titanium wheel bolts (some new, some used)
KTR gloss carbon fibre front splitter (new in box)
1 x 205/45 ZR16 NS-2R (new, bought in Dec 2025)
Seatbelts (white/silver, used and need cleaning)
Volantech carbon steering wheel button panel (new)
