Haha! I think we scared him off a 172cup, not because of worries about braking, just because of the 'lively' debate he has just started!
Good choice mate. Enjoy your car
Love the way he thinks people are 'ganging up' on him. Guess it never crossed his mind that he is simply wrong about this subject.
I bet Rumour Control was'nt expecting this much of a response anyhow haha!
No one is disputing that ABS is an advantage in the wet! It is in the dry where it is more of a hindrance than a help. And of course it is quicker if you can hold the brakes on the point of locking up. ABS works by briefly releasing the brakes then re-applying them, when your brakes are released...
.
Thankyou Markcup for bringing some cold hard FACTS to an argument yet again :approve:
ABS systems are not perfect; they do increase braking distances on a dry road as they can be confused by bumps in the road and other factors & are simply not as sensitive as a capable drivers foot...
Its probably just the camber of the road or torque steer as others have already said.
I thought the steering wheel on my cup was off-centre when I bought it as I seemed to have to steer right slightly to go straight! but then I heard how road camber can give that impression.
Try going to a...
I don't think so somehow. The whole point of using a diffuser rather than a rear wing is that it creates downforce WITHOUT drag! I think that and the vented front arches are the coolest features of the 197. Although it is still way too big and heavy to be a worthy successor to the 172/182.
Not...
Forgive me if I'm wrong but was'nt the original question where 98 ron can be bought? not which is best or what other people use.
You can buy 98ron from most petrol stations to be honest: Shell (Optimax), BP (Ultimate) Tescos (99), Sainsburys to name a few.
I prefer to use Optimax for its...
Just read all the way through this thread. Why do some people (a minority admittedly) find it so hard to believe that a 172/182 can be rated as better to drive than a Focus RS or any other hot hatch? What do they base their opinion on?....0-60 times?! Have they driven all these other cars?....I...
Cheers for the replies. So I take it that the reason for the occasional clunking noise is the same as that which causes the scraping noise on full lock - a problem with the strut catching
When I drive at low speed around mini roundabouts or turn into junctions I often hear metalic clanking/clunking noises (best I can describe it!) coming from the front of the car.
Is this normal or is there something wrong with the suspension? I get the common squeeking/scraping noise on full...
The clutch pedal in my 172cup seems to be falling apart. The metals jagged and deformed on the left side of the pedal so that is now scrapes and kind of catch's against the sole of my shoe as I step off the pedal.
Anybody else had this happen? or got any idea how I've managed to cause it...
One parked a space away from my very own cup in Tesco car park today. Was obviously seeking some safety in the quieter end of the car park like me! Was quite surprised as this is only the second time I've seen another cup since owning mine for about 3 weeks.
I've spotted another (the same?)...
Crikey. They really are strong little buggers are'nt they. Noticed a web in my drivers side mirror today, i'll look out for my 8-legged friend next time I'm bored on the M1!
Bought mine for £6150 (52, 33K) two weeks ago off autotrader if thats any help. Saw yours on here (and pistonheads too?) when I was looking. Seemed a fair price and condition to me, the distance away was the only reason I did'nt consider buying yours.
I think the thing with the cup is that it...
Funny thread! LOL at the one saying they quite liked the spider and watched it as they drove along - how slow do they drive?! or was that some kind of tenacious super-spider that just would'nt let go?
Ambushing him as he builds the web is definitely the way forward
Gareth you lucky b*****d! Thanks for the preview. It is a little unfair to compare a standard 197 with a 182 trophy as the dampers fitted to the trophy are way beyond (and more expensive) those fitted to less exclusive models. But I am not convinced the 197 is a worthy successor to 172/182's as...
Had it back down Renault now and they fixed it with a couple of self-tapping screws, fairly happy with that as it did'nt cost me anymore cash!
The service salesman bloke had a look and said that they had'nt replaced that part when it was in before, and that that part is not really properly...

Ha ha exactly mate. I think bringing the Stigs driving skills into this was a bit irrevelant.
If you want my to cents on the question I'd go for the 172 cup if you want the...
Last night I went for a blast on the motorway for a couple of junctions and when I came off at a junction I could here a scraping noise coming from the front of the car. Pulled over and had a look and the lefthand corner of the undertray was hanging down, and there was a piece of it missing...
Since when have clios been well known for having poor handling?! The reason I chose a cup over many other cars is because of its reputation for class-leading handling and performance.
What a muppet!
Rich you really don't know what your talking about. Do some reading on here - then you'll understand when someone says theres no 'cup packs' on 172's, only 182's
Nice one Tim and Gareth. Theres one on ebay I've been watching which is currently up to £18 with two days of bidding left!......think I'll try the dealerships
