    My Mk1 172 is making a lumpy swirling sound from the engine when idle, anyone else experienced this, is it the cambelt? Its only done 15k, cheers, Cheese

    I was in your situation about 4 months ago dude. Needed to part-ex my old car (saxo vtr), so i went for the Mk1. Paid 11k for the 172 (with 11k on the clock) and got 5k for me saxo, which i was well chuffed with. The 172 is imported though so maybe 11k was a bit steep? but it was the right deal...

    Check if its imported, but thats an obvious one right? ummm, theres nothing else wrong with mine ... except the passanger seat rattles when theres no-one in it, just buy it man!!

    Listen for an exhaust rattle at just over 2000 and 4000 revs. Mine does it, I think the mid silencer needs replacing.

    I dont think ill keep it disconnected all of the time, but its definately worth doing now and again.

    Grab both ends on the pipe, tilt the airbox back a bit with your left hand, then pull apart and twist with both hands. It does takes a bit of force, and a ravaged my thumb last time i did it. p.s. Does anyone know if this does any harm to the car?

    I have tried this and it sounds cool. Also, I used to have a squeak coming from the front of the car which i couldnt get rid of, or even locate. After re-connecting the pipe the squeak has gone. I have since disconnected the pipe and the squeak came back. So if anyone has a squeak then it may be...
