The term SBF comes up alot (s**t but free). Sadly even nationals use it alot. Its why the spectator with the dream or ego boost hunting to be a real pro kills themselves by doing it free.
Its like internships, most think that 6months at a studio will lead to a job, most of the time I just see a...
I got pissed and cocky with a club owner. Then got lucky being in the right venue at the right time when a seasoned pro didnt turn up.
A few years on I now shoot some of the biggest music events in my sector.
Was shooting a mate who was warming up for Lifehouse @ the roundhouse. Cut a long story short ended up doing the stills and video for lifehouse..
Anyway lighting was mostly backlighting which is quite tough to get any detail in faces but meh...
mostly B+W well because I like it and ill use it...
5D II lovely body. However the AF isnt great IMO (no step up from the 5D mki) alot of people felt this which is why the MKIII is so eagerly anticipated.
Re lenses, got a 24-105 and a 24-70 here, personally I dont like the 24-105, ive used both in anger and felt the 24-70 was worth the money...
Not normally one to do alot of this type of shot, and normally dont shoot girls due to not really wanting to deal with the whole MUA etc... faffing that comes with.
Anyway went along to a workshop someone was running as a bit of a day out. Not one for doing much PP work also thought it would be...
like i say only on FF. But it is canons UWA in EF mount. Exactly the same as the 10mm on 1.6 crop.
17-40L is a much better deal for anyone not needing 2.8 glass mind. You need one of them :D
In the OP a used siggy 10-20 for between 250-280 would be perfectamondo
16-35 blows it well out of the water ;) Although its only 16mm on the ff like the 10mm is on 1.6.
on topic.
Personally I felt the siggy 10-20 was much better value than the canon i had plenty of published pics with it and would still have it to this day if it wasnt a dc lens.
the siggy 10-20 is a great little lens. I would still have one in a shot if i wasnt shooting 1.3crop. Ok its not L glass but I had alot of published work with it and never had an issue with it. The 17-40 is going to be about 27-64 on 1.6crop which isnt wide at all.
50 1.8, might aswell burn 4...
Think im deffo doing the right things with my music stuff these days. Been a long 3 years when I look at where I started and now who I work with.
Live bands is the new challenge for me though, done pretty much every dj in top 100 now so got to get to more gigs. That and the promo shoots that...
Have been a bit busy recently, spend less time shooting them though and more time dealing with press/pr people after sadly :wall
Still quite good fun, just need to shoot the prodigy live and skunk anansie and ill have ticked most of my want to shoot lve list.
Anyway first up was bedrock12 at...
The issue is when something is free it is killing off the industry, rates being slashed is one thing but being slashed to a big fat zero totally irradicates the profession which some people have dedicated their lives to.
I shoot in the music industry and free wins most of the time over...
to put things int perspective.
Photography is a career choice for many people, the same as IT is. How many people who work in IT would be pissed off if their jobs were suddenly not needed/pay cut back because amateurs were offering to work for free in the IT world all the time.
People seem...
He got paid rather than giving it away for the free ego boost that so many people seem to feel is the 'right' thing to do these days.
Any image has value and should be paid for if someone wants to use it.
Gutted i didnt make it along to DTM. But then again I refuse to cross palmers hand with more gold, prices are to much to stand on the s**t side of the fence and get annoyed by loads of cockends waving their 100-400s about
Start f**k up is great lol!
cheers dude, I was going for a different look.
I cant effing stand the crappy look that tilllate/DSI are obsessed with. I wanted a more powerful/elegant image than using a 1million second shutter speed and twirling the cam like a cat having an epileptic fit.
Sorry didnt pop up brands today...
It was www.southwestfour.com for next year
cheers, hopefully these will help get another festival or two on the books, just need to get my automotive stuff as strong as my music work
One hell of a weekend for me, fantastic atmosphere at the event, plus I was shooting friday/saturday and sunday nights, and being the only photographer meant I was running around all over the place. Anyway pictures..
View from the sky..
Sunday saw a big rain storm just before salt...
Lens
Now we have that over with. The 70-200 2.8 IS L is a great bit of kit, and is a lens which if you buy for circa £900 you should be able to use for a while and sell on without loosing much money (if any at all depending on the market fluctuation at the time). www.camerapricebuster.co.uk for...
well all my recent work has been with the 16-35 on the mkiii.
If you are shooting live bands you will find a fair few dont want flash photography. High iso Low F number is key here. Ive posted music based images as it seems that is what you want the info for.
Wont work well with any camera im afraid.
Its basically the same as the EF-s system, designed for AP-C sensors, so is not alot of use on the 5d/1d and their varients.
3rd party flashes have been known to cause error99 issues on more than one occasion.
Personally I started with the 430EX, something I wish i didnt do. I was going for the 580 and got told I wouldnt need it - I shoot in music venues at least 2 times a week and sold my 430 as I didnt like it...
I know im constantly moaning at lighting techies to sort various lighting modes out for pics and to make the night look better.
But sadly there are powers that be in a few venues/chains that are anti alot of different things.
Martin audio (iirc) have some cracking screens though, people are...
Not 100% true but justified.
For example a very large chains of venues ban scanning lazers under health and safety.
There are a few venues I know who are really tight on budget though aswell, the americans do it best, although touring culture is different, look at deadmau5 across the us. Im...
good stuff, nice to see a big trance fan on here.
I was meant to have been going to shoot for someone there this year but in the end had plans elsewhere which i needed to stay commited to.
The light show that gets put into this event year on year is fantastic, something the UK clubs/music...
As nick said 50D + 70-200 F4 (non IS) then just use it properly and upgrade later on.
Thats the best you will get on a budget, use the high iso (you will need it often indoors in badly lit arenas).Else its 2.8 IS and your busget gone without even having a body
if you have the dosh a 50D will take ALOT more abuse than a 550D.
And unless canon have drasticly changed the plastic body line up the 50D will have better AF all round (inc low light)
