    Car doesn't start

The Saga continues. Now sometimes it runs, sometimes it doesn't. Some really vague s**t going on. I'll try to get it all on paper here. Two days ago, it wouldn't start anymore. Tonight, I connected the battery again, and I could hear the relays click, so I did a start attempt, and it fired...

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

A couple of days after my last post, my car started running rough again. This time I was able to diagnose the problem real soon, as injector 1 gave just 3 Ohms. I replaced the injector, and all is fine now. Hopefully for long. :D

We haven’t had a roll call for a while… *Track Clio pics only!*

Nice thread. I'm based in Klazienaveen in the Netherlands, so my local tracks are Assen and Zandvoort, and close to me across the border Meppen. Don't really know which is my favourite, Assen has a nice flow, and Zandvoort has some challenging sections. Although it's just a 3 hour drive, I've...

    It's there for a reason. 😉

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

I got the car running again, it turned out to be the green wire between the actuator relay and the ECU. Even though it gave 12V at the ECU plug, apparently, it needed to be replaced. In this thread, you can see what I've tested, and how I came to the solution...

    Car doesn't start

I got the car running again. I bypassed the actuator relay, even though I saw 12v through the wires, this was the issue.

    Car doesn't start

I returned to the basics, just to rule them out. I cleaned the big earth strap and connectors from the gearbox to the body, I cleaned the connection from the loom to the gearbox, and the earth from the cooling fan I suppose?, that's also going to the body. I measured 12v across the battery...

    Car doesn't start

Allright, so this is a post I wasn't hoping to have to do, but my car doesn't want to start anymore, and I'm a bit clueless. It's a Clio 172 ph1. Let's start at the beginning. I don't know how related all these problems/symptoms are, but I just want to mention them. Last October, I had a...

    Standard oil with Gripper?

I found the data sheets for both Elf 75W80 and Redline MT90. https://total-cdn-lmdb.afineo.io/tds/TDS_ELF_TRANSELF-NFJ-75W-80_NQ7_201410_EN.pdf https://www.redlineoil.com/Content/files/tech/MT-90_GO_PROD_INFO_2020.pdf What I can make from this is that the Viscosity Index from the Redline is...

    Standard oil with Gripper?

@oilman Thanks, that's a really good explanation about gl4 and gl5. But the Elf 75W80 and Redline MT90 75W90 are both gl4, so @NorthloopCup must mean something else? I thought the Motul 75W90 LS 300 was gl4 as well, but apparantly it's gl5.

    Standard oil with Gripper?

Thanks for the replies. Choosing oil for the box and not the diff is what I've read before, likewise for gl4 for the brass synchros. So apparantly using the standard oil is fine as long as you change regularly? @NorthloopCup Can you share a bit about which specs you mean? Beyond hot and cold...

    Standard oil with Gripper?

I've read a couple of threads on here regarding the best oil for a Gripper'd box, and the one most recommended I believe is Redline MT90 75W90 GL4. I've found a pdf from Gripper which says to first follow the recommended oil. It also says it can cope with anything, even engine oil or just CV...

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

Stock final drive. But it is a JC5-130 so the final drive is shorter than the stock JC5-089.

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

Biggest single update possible to my opinion on this project, picture says it all I suppose. It's a Gripper LSD inside a @NorthloopCup refurbished box, and has done little miles since refurishment. The Gripper has the Road/trackday settings, which mean 40/65 ramp angles and 60 Nm preload...

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

So I finally found my timing issue. I ordered a new dephaser, as I thought this was the cause, turned out it wasn't. I received my dephaser, and mounted it and timed the belt the same evening. Timing missalignment the same. :cautious: Also changed the water pump while I was at it. My...

I haven't got a clue about this one, I'm sorry. It's been a few years since I deleted my AC.

    Clio 172 ph1 rs - Wheel and Tire Moditification ( O.Z. Formula 15"4x100 ET35 )

If you have standard brakes, it shouldn't be a problem. Normally, a lower ET means more room inside the wheel for brakes.

    Clio 172 ph1 rs - Wheel and Tire Moditification ( O.Z. Formula 15"4x100 ET35 )

It depends on the width of the wheel, but my 7x15 ET37 fit without any problems with 195/50 tyres.

So I checked my timing, and it's a bit off. Could this be the reason for the low compression values?

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

So after the disastrous trackday at Assen, I had the windshield replaced. Forgot to take a picture, but we all know what a window looks like. :p I also did a compression check, and the numbers seem low. First test is with a cold engine, the second one warm. I was hoping the numbers would...

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

Last week I had another trackday planned, and yet again, it wasn't a great succes for me for different reasons. Before the first session I noticed my coolant had a disturbing color. Originally it was blue, and now it looked like used toilet water? I discussed it with my mates, and we came to...

That's good to hear, let's hope my old driveshafts can still handle the extra load. 🤣
  25. scullyg40

    Suspension/gearbox

So you need a stronger clutch as well as a shorter driveshaft with a Gripper? Although i have the PMS Roll centre correction with Laguna hubs, which gives 12 mm more track width, so I might get away with that. Also, fitting the Cup subframe with wider track might also be a solution right? I...
