    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

I portmatched my intake. Don't expect anything from it really, but it's just something I've been wanting to do. I also gave the intake a fresh lick of paint, and then sanded back the Renault Sport logo.

I have BC Racing's. But can't you just tighten the bolts, and pull everything tight?

Little progress is also progress :p I took out the big engine mount, savind another 2,2 kg's. This was the last item of the weight saving programm, in total I removed around 12 kg's in the front of the car, which is quite a big number, but is also good for the weight distribution, since it...

Give me some time, being a newborn father and having a track car isn't the best combination. 😁

    Interesting cams?

https://m.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/renault-clio-r3-maxi-evo-250-nockenwellen/1736130103-223-1389 Are these cams usefull for someone? Any info on the specs? Can they be used on a 'standard' engine, or only on full race spec/modified engine? @NorthloopCup ?
  6. scullyg40

    NorthloopCup likes a challenge, right?

Can you tell me the total length of the intake, as I'm pretty sure I will have this issue as well, just haven't got the engine in right now so it's a bit of a guess.

Engine cuts out after cold start

I'm not able to look at this right now, as the engine is out of the car at the moment.

Exige S2 2zz race car vs MR2 2zz track car

8 seconds difference over a 2 minute lap is a huge difference, especially if the cars are basically the same. Very interested to see if you can close this gap. 👍

Must be. Strange, as I have a lot of documentation of the cars history. Is there any way I can identify the engine or head?

Still not really sure if I solved it, but I added camber, as it got hot on the outside.

Definately not a big exhaust port head than what I've got. Hmm, strange. Unless phase 1's also had the smaller ports, mine's had a head or an engine change at some point.

    Lightweight crank pulley

Well, my old Polo G40 never had one, and it came with a single mass flywheel as well, and I'm sure, lots of older cars were produced like this.

That would be nice, and I hope you're right. Progress is painfully slow now with the little one taking up all my spare time.

    Lightweight crank pulley

Are you sure, as I believe there are plenty 4 pots that do not have them.

BC DS spring rates advice for track please!?

I have 10/8, and I love it on Assen and Zandvoort, but on the Nürburgring, I found it very bumpy.

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

This evening I finally had some spare time to box in the ears for the new engine mounts. I boxed them in front and rear, with angled steel plate that goes underneath the subframe, so that the forces go around the subframe, instead of just pulling on the welds of the ears.

I'd rather have a supercharger, this eliminates some of the heat issues, but the simplicity of just ITB's with a standalone suits me just fine.

Thanks. 👍 And if you could measure the ports that would be much appreciated. It's just that the gasket is a lot bigger and the ports don't seem that big to me. But unless the car had a cylinderhead change or even a full engine change in the past it must be the bigport head as I have an early...

So, as I've become a father a couple of weeks ago, time in the garage has become very scarce. So what do you do, you order some parts. I ordered some heatwrap to wrap the manifold, in an attempt to get the under bonnet temperatures a bit lower. I ordered a new clutch, as now seems...

    Inferno track car build

Why do you put the heat tape in the bonnet? You want to keep the heat inside the engine bay?

    Best all-round semi-slicks?

Federal 595 RSR? I used these on the dry and the wet, I haven't got much comparison though.

    Project Lightweight, Trackday Clio 172

Took the engine out to do some maintenance, mainly the cambelt, and swapping the gearbox. While I'm at it, I also want to change the clutch, possibly lighten the flywheel a bit, and fix som oil leaks I've been having for some time. The main one should be the gearbox side crankshaft seal, I will...

Conors 172 Cup track toy build..

The big builds on here cost A LOT of money. I try to do everything myself and also fabri cate parts instead of just buying to keep costs down.

    182 (TURBO or SUPERCHARGER)

I can't comment on both the Clio setups, but I did own a mildly tuned (160 hp) Polo G40 a long time ago, and engine wise it just felt like there was a bigger engine in there, zero lag. I now have a Golf 7 GTI, and while it's more than 20 years more developed, lag is still present, and dosage of...

I guess the music pushed away the supercharger whine. 🤣

    Dilemma... C7 RS6 or R8 V10+

That's exactly the reason why it's my dreamcar. It's a supercar, yet it doesn't scream it is like a Lambo or Ferrari.

    Dilemma... C7 RS6 or R8 V10+

Buy the RS6 and spend a bit of finance on the tuning. Make it a 900+ hp car, and go make fun of every R8 you can find. 😁😉

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Great posting, I guess the weight numbers will be mentioned in one of the next posts right? A carbon roof is just what I need, except my wallet/wife thinks otherwise. 🤣
