Best way to know is have a look at the box your car has, you're looking for this, or lack of it.
The orange stripe wire with the little metal heat shield, it's the speedo drive, as said if you have one you'll need a JC5 129.
I have a 52 plate 172 and don't have a speedo drive so I always use...
I love this car, how massive were Volvo's back in the day, it's as long as a school bus!
Can you get a photo of it parked next to a Merc Sprinter for comparison, I bet it wouldn't be far off the same length.
Obviously not at the moment, but come May I guess we'll all find out when the tighter rules come into effect, hopefully it's just a storm in a tea cup and nothing much will change.
Looks like my plans for a cage, buckets, harnesses and an aftermarket wheel are still on then, yes eventually it's only ever going to get used on track days, but as long as I do at least 1 timed event a year it can be classed as a competition car, or not, who knows? Certainly not the people that...
So potentially a stripped out track day Clio with full cage, buckets, harnesses, aftermarket steering wheel with no drivers airbag will pass as long as it can be classed as a competition car, but there in lies the problem, what is classed as competition, a timed event like a sprint, hill climb...
Anyone else find this extremely confusing?
On the one hand the first statement says if you have extensive modifications such as no rear seats, a full cage, buckets and harnesses you will pass if you don't have a drivers airbag.
But the second statement says if you have rally style seats (which...
But having buckets and harnesses means i've removed the curtain airbags that were in the original seats.
I've just read a few different articles on these new rules and a lot of motoring organisations and classic car clubs are just as confused, one article I read said a new EU proposal stated...
So basically no interior mods are legal unless you can prove it's a competition rally car, so much for my plans for buckets, harnesses, aftermarket steering wheel and a cage. (unless I trailer it to the track)
Although I have a standard interior except for the back seats removed to fit the dog...
So standard everything with a full cage and you'll pass.
Buckets and harnesses alone you'll fail.
Steering wheel with no airbag alone you'll fail.
Buckets, harnesses, steering wheel and no cage you fail.
But buckets, harnesses, aftermarket market steering wheel with a cage and you pass.
Is...
Few more little problems sorted today at Ryan's garage, engine light came on the other day when he took it out for another shakedown, Ryan plugged his diagnostics in and it said brake pedal switch, air con compressor something or other (which is odd because the air con went in the bin years...
It ran good before, then a day of CSF track action killed off the gearbox, then in the following months parts started to slowly die, like the water pump, Ryan also said the clutch release bearing was a few miles away from going ping.
It will be staying clean this time though, Ryan will kill me...
Then he put a full Hazmat suit on to drive it onto the rollers. lol
It was f*cking bad though, Zorlac shed hair like no dog i've even known, if you opened the window at speed it would swirl round the cabin like a hair tornado.
It's not as bad as it used to be, all the carpet in the back got binned a few years ago and metal is alot easier to clean, plus this dog doesn't shed hair as much as the last.
We need to try and hammer the mangled jacking points back into shape and removed that side skirt that's been pushed out to make sure it's not full of gravel and rain water.
In retrospect saying to passengers 'Oh were off here........no we're fine', probably isn't the best thing for peoples nerves when i'm belting around the track at full speed. lol
I honestly can't thank you enough mate, having a proper sh*t time in my life atm and hearing it fire up and going for bonnetless Mad Max style blast really cheered me up, I love that car so much and getting it back on the road will hopefully be the start of a more positive turn of events for me...
The Derv weapon works, I saw it move under it's own power today.
The other weapon might take us longer than we thought seeing as it's still a shell after 2 years. lol
Also it's f*cking rapid compared to before and it wasn't slow then, like can't react quickly enough to the acceleration rapid, it's going to be fun on track.
@HMS Derv Destroyer is a legitimate f*cking legend!!!
My Clio was on it's arse and needed a hell of a lot of work I couldn't afford, I had however bought all of the parts I needed before I lost my job, so as a massive favour and working his arse off for free for the past 3 weeks evenings and...
