Had an absolutely awesome day at Snetterton yesterday!
Sulked at first because it was soaking wet but by the end I was praying for more rain!
Car lapped it up. Think because I have the soft sport suspension mixed with rainsport 3's I was at a major advantage compared to those with coilovers...
This was towards the beginning as I was learning the track. Got LOADS of good footage but laptop cable is fubared so did this instead. Quick little vid following an m3
Purple dogbone mount and vibratechnics drivers side mount.
Yeah they are rainsport 3's. Im so impressed as it was my first time on track in years and also at Snetterton where I've never driven before in the pouring wet.
By the end I was almost driving as if it was dry. One corner was immensely...
No mods just rainsport tyres and uprated engine mounts (think I need an upper gearbox mount as im still getting banging exiting 2nd gear turns)
Stripped rear also and I left the ESP on. Sport model so Abs also.
Just found out a Clio in the wet at Snetterton is faster than an m3, radical, subaru's, porsche 911 turbo, intergra etc LOL
What I've taken from the day is that a Clio is sublime to drive on track in the wet. SUBLIME
Unless its r27 I find 197's look like a 1.2
Im sure there are quite a few differences between197/200 as the magazines didnt half bark on about them when the 200 came out.
With reference to racing diesels I find they pull and gap almost instantly but then the Clio edges back high up in the rev range usually when they are changing gear. Annoyingly with a loud exhaust it sounds like you are thrashing the tits off the car which is sort of embarassing tbh.
Im doing Snetterton tonight with OE brembo discs and pads and just my fogs opened up with those ebay things and also have them in my arch liners. No ducts. No braided lines or uprated fluid.
Will let you know how it gets on.
From the video I would say you just need more confidence and practice if anything. I did Brands 5 years ago (first real trackday) and I didnt have tuition just an instructor showing me the lines and I was a bit more confident. "saxo vts vs m3" on youtube if interested
Depending on your mileage but I have HAD to replace the engine and dogbone mount to stop the knocking noise from exhaust. Can still do it in first gear sometimes. If im honest theres not a huge difference in feel or peformance and thats with a vibratechnics engine mount and a poly purple dogbone...
I want to know of the handling has improved with the cage. Noticeably that is.
Also how you are running seatbelts with buckets?
Is the dash airbag light on as well?
I have to admit 230bhp would be awesome in a clio but by the time I could afford everything I would need to support that It would be better for me to just buy a megane 250 cup. Hopefully my next car.
Just renoticed the merthyr meet. Some serious roads around brecon area! I remember being pulled 3 times in 3 days by the welsh coppers who are assholes lol
Also remember getting raped by a wolf in sheeps clothing 306 with MI16 engine. Remember going through Brecon centre straight at 135 mph...
Mount is finally fitted! No more knocking from the exhaust when acclerating in first and second! I could move it with two fingers there was that much give in the rubber LOL
Now the car is more or less ready for snetterton on the 28th.
Ideally would like my ducts fitted as I have half done the...
My clio is my "daily" and I've even removed the cd player and speakers lol
Removing weight has had a big effect at low revs. Im now driving around and pulling from the gear above that I used to. Not noticed the effect on braking much though which is odd.
I would say my next priority after my...
It could be down to my experience of other cars etc but am I the only one reading this thinking the last area I would mod a clio is in the power stakes. I appreciate this is to be a road car but even in standard form I don't rate the Clio has highly as some do. I've driven kia's that handle as...
