Yes, finally! Very useful diagram @MLB
No17 is the hose I was trying to describe in my poorly executed initial reply.
It runs from where you show above, down past the brake servo to low level under the car.
If you can access it bottom end you may be be able to blow, or vacuum it clear without...
PS, by 'head' above my mean the part where the cams whizz round, not the combustion bit obviously.
I did have another thought.
Why is the last chamber so clean?
When you initially stamp on the throttle the manifold air pressure shoots up, and then drops back, presumably into vacuum, or at...
Seal change fairly straightforward, the old one was rock-hard so this is looking good as a fix for the oil int0 the No4 plug hole.
I removed the breather plate mainly to check I hadn't pushed a plug of paper down the vent elbow when the engine was out.
The increased breather pressure, dipstick...
Many thanks for this.
After a couple of track sessions on Sunday some more oil appeared so I ordered a seal on Monday, good to know I might have done the right thing for once!
I do seem to have a much increased breather pressure after fitting a slightly larger TB, despite running the breather...
Just to round out this thread I fitted a Jetex (Simons) 14" long circular silencer.
I was quite impressed with the heavy duty clamps, better than the U-bolt as they are a lot wider, have an internal ring and 10mm bolt (17mm head) to graunch them up with!
Big test was the dB test. I 'borrowed' my...
That is completely correct, the photo was just to show the rough location of the evaporator.
I may have this wrong, if so please tell me, but in humid weather with AC working the condensation produced by the evaporator needs to drain away, which is why there is often water under a car that has...
Correction! That is not the condenser, too many cold cans on a hot evening!
I'm not sure what this is officially called, I'd call it a cooling coil, but cooler matrix?
(The condenser which was at the front and cools the hot fridge gas has gone from my car)
This might help, my 182 has air con deleted, but the condenser is still in place. The photo shows that it's in the air duct in the 'scuttle' just downstream of the fan.
It will of course produce loads of condensation in this weather.
What I can't get a photo of is the rubber drain pipe that...
As above I can see why vehicle speed might be out, but can't understand why the max rpm would be higher.
I guess it's a 182 going from16 to 15", so engine speed measured by the 'thingy on top of the flywheel', and vehicle speed comes from the ABS sensors?
I do understand you would get to max...
As above those tyres look fine!
I think there must be as many different opinions and experiences of track tyres as there are track cars and race track combinations!
Personally I have found the car work best for me if the rears are higher pressure, harder compound or stiffer dampers, and the...
This caught out a garage, and later me, and it will cause the bearing in the disc to quickly fail if you don't re-fit or replace these.
They often come off with the old disc, and are not supplied with the new disc.
I got replacements from RTR parts...
I hadn't noticed this when I cleaned the oil out of the spark plug well and re-fitted plug and lead.
The car started missing again and no wonder!!
I guess that when the well was full of oil the spark tried to divert through the oil, eventually blowing a hole through the rubber.
It must have...
I haven't had it mapped on the bigger throttle body Mark, but that has been nagging at me so yes, bloody good idea! Sometimes I just need someone to tell me to do it!
I currently just have the RSTuner 98 Ron map, I will contact RST to see if they have an off the peg map for a 62mmTB, but I doubt...
That would be ideal, but I'd have to take some advice on where to make the hole, and there's not much of the top of the cover visible, but if anyone has done exactly that I would love to see pics please
This is in my 182 track car.
While the engine was out I polished the manifold tracts and did my best to match the ports on the 2 intake sections and head. I also cleaned up the exhaust ports and internal welds on the exhaust manifold.
I then fitted a 62mm throttle body, calculating that it gives...
I only have these two circular back boxes, so not sure I could fit anything in there, I was thinking of the clamp on disc dB killers that go on the tailpipe but I'd have to buy two, so looked a fairly expensive solution.
OOPs! I can't add a photo either!
You can see the Gravity Exhaust I have...
Many thanks for the link, looks ideal. Unfortunately I can't see your installed photo.
I would fit it where the cat used to be, I have a straight pipe with the sensor boss welded in, I just need to get under the car to see if I have 16" straight pipe from the downpipe to the boss.
Otherwise I...
Many thanks for the replies.
I'm just going to fit a short circular silencer, so probably just where the cat used to be would be ok. The one I was looking at was 125mm diameter so I might need to find one that's 100mm.
I only need a couple of dB safety margin for the noise tests as it's not...
In other threads I've documented the new Gravity exhaust that I fitted.
It passed a 100dB static and 92dB drive-by on its first track day, but i know it's pretty near the limit, particularly under load on the drive-by.
Second track day the car went really well in the first session, but got...
This seems odd, but when raising the revs in neutral to noise test the exhaust I noticed the ESP light flashing when over 4500rpm, it was more of a flicker than a good solid regular flash.
Plugged in the RSTuner which showed a 'vehicle speed sensor fault' in the memory.
It makes sense that...
I took mine to BBA Reman as they are local to me, but I think they are quite a bit more expensive than the e-bay option.
I took the UCH out myself, just a load of plugs as far as I recall.
As my car is now stripped out it's just cable tied to the roll cage, so very easy to take photos of the...
In your original post you say it made 175.5 WHP bhp. Given a rough transmission loss of 10-15%, say 12.5% that would make about 197 bhp at the Flywheel.
I would have though that would be pretty good.
Or is the dyno reading already calculated back for Flywheel power, in which case not so good.
:D I reckon I need more help than just a noisy exhaust!
I think I just drive from memory, and mine's definitely on the decline.
I was just getting used to the OEM gear changes and now we've gone and fitted the new final drive.
I'm sure the car will be quicker, just the operator is a bit...
Good news....... the Gravity exhaust passed the 100dB static test by quite a margin, and didn't trigger the 92dB drive by.
Also had a few 'car sounds great' comments from other drivers on yesterday's track day.
I can only report from inside the car: it sounds RASPY rather than BOOMY. I'm pretty...
Great tip there, I'll be adding that to my regular checks in from now on.
Rough estimate I will do about 1000 track miles a year, so would need a service every 2-3 years.
I would plan to change the oil every 300 miles or so, hopefully that's regular enough?
I have the Gripper diff and gearbox recon from @NorthloopCup , great service and the best modification for going faster round a tight racetrack.
The traction out of the corners makes my 176bhp Clio faster around Lydden Hill than a 230bhp turboed Clio with no LSD.
For a road only car it might be...
