Back to the fuel rail.....what if you had a spare £180 and fitted one of these K-Tec billet jobs:
https://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=5543&appid=2
Would that be as 'safe' as the OEM plastic with guard?
Reason for asking is I've been racing for a couple of years with the plastic...
I might just try spraying in some engine degreaser and giving it another brush/wash out. If you shift some of those remaining oily bits I reckon you'll definitely have cleared all the loose particles as well.
A question for the experts: out of interest what components would be damaged by a few...
Having had another look at your photos I don't think the greasy bits are too much of an issue, they just look like oily deposits from the breathers that haven't been fully removed by the blasting, so were probably always there.
No evidence of the tiny balls that might have caused your friend's...
I recently had my inlet vapour blasted and they advised me to wash it out thoroughly before fitting it, which I did and haven't had any issues.
They don't wash it out, so cannot guarantee all the tiny blast particles have been removed.
I did pretty much what @Touring_Rob suggests, and just for...
Yes that's probably not a good idea!
You'd expect that to be blowing oily vapour all over the rear of the engine bay, and more importantly over a hot exhaust manifold when driven hard.
@KebabWarrior81
That elbow would be blanked off is someone has fitted and oil catch tank, or is just allowing the engine to vent to atmosphere via a filter.
In that case the pipe from the rear of the engine would go to the tank and the elbow would be blocked off.
I had to lash up this...
Simple to fit, all the hanger positions are all present and correct.
Only comment on the fit is the tailpipes are a touch closer together than they should be.
Also I haven't put the rear wheels back on the ground yet, so can't tell exactly how it will sit.
So to the main concern, the NOISE...
You think I might be cutting a silencer in then :)
I have the Jetex catalogue handy!
If the worst happens it's ok 'cos my wife's a hearing aid dispenser so I should get a discount.
Also means I can 'borrow' her sound meter. I'll try and test it according to MSA static test and report...
Seeing as I didn't get any replies I thought I'd just find out for myself!
I ordered a Gravity Performance cat-back system for the 182 on Tuesday and it arrived today.
It was well packed, and certainly looks decent quality.
The whole thing weighs 11kg. I don't think there will be much weight...
Does anyone have a Gravity cat back exhaust on their 182?
What I really want to know is the static dB level with a decat pipe, just to make sure it would pass track day and race limits.
My existing exhaust is made up of too many pieces all put together with U clamps, and even with all the...
I would appreciate some advice, as I'm not sure If I have a problem. (Clio 182)
After the final session of my last track day I found oil over the front of the engine, and the dipstick lifted so the rubber seal was no longer in place.
I thought I had pulled the stick up myself as I had spanners...
I think simply the change down from 3rd to 2nd at race pace was too harsh for both the LUK and Valeo clutch covers.
I applied 2 solutions at the same time, so not sure which has had the most effect, but I'm sure both have helped:
Sachs racing clutch, and
13/59 final drive, which has changed...
After 5 x fifteen minute track day sessions, a qualifying and two races, all at the clutch-killing Lydden Hill, I think it's safe to say the clutch issue is now solved.
Many thanks to you all for your help.
I'm now trying to get to grips with the new gear ratios, but they do work well. I just...
I recently bought 15" Speedline Turini 2120 from Demon Tweeks to replace the 16" wheels on my 182.
That was 2 or 3 weeks ago and they had stock in silver or gold, but a quick look suggest they are now awaiting stock.
It's a good strong wheel and saves 1.5kg over the 16" OEM lump. Maybe worth...
I also have the 6.5". They are ET35 rather than the ET45 of the original 16x7 wheels.
Wheel offsets hurt my brain, but I think I worked out that although the Turinis are 1/2" narrower they actually sit about 4mm further out. So at least you get the same, if not slightly wider track.
I have just done exactly what you are considering, and have bought 15" Speedline Turinis with 195x50 AR-1 tyres. Replacing the OEM 16" wheels, same as in your photo.
My reasons are also similar, but mine is a track only car so I'm not concerned about the appearance. I'm saving about 1.5kg per...
I paid £60 to have the inlet manifold vapour blasted.
To be honest it wasn't for the appearance, I just wanted the internal cleaned before trying to polish and match the ports.
Couldn't believe how new it looked!
Sorry this is absolutely useless for the OP as I am in Kent, and it was a...
So that's about now, I'll look into it. thanks.
Good point about wets/spares. I will keep my 16" wheels for wet tyres, no point selling them they are not cosmetically pleasing!
I really appreciate the offer, many thanks, but I'm down in the south east corner right by the channel tunnel.
Don't think us covid-riddled Kentish folk should be travelling too far!
But if I haven't sorted the wheels by the time we are released back into the community it would be a great reason...
I think it's just that Lydden Hill is notoriously hard on tyres, and it's all corners.
With nice soft tyres in warm weather you get tonnes of grip, but whatever you do with camber etc. the tyres just give up their rubber.
Sensible brain would say just use harder tyres and save money, but racing...
What were the tyres?
We are looking at paying around £90 for a 15" AR-1 against £140ish for a 16"
We go through at least a pair of fronts every trackday at Lydden. Sometimes all 4 tyres, although I have taken to putting harder tyres on the rear as it actually helps the handling!
So as Nankang...
My 182 track car has the original 16" wheels over Ceika 6-pot calipers.
Good 15" track tyres, in particular Nankang AR-1 are a lot cheaper than 16". So much so I reckon I could quickly recoup the cost of the wheels, particularly if I can get them second hand.
I think the overall diameter of...
Only compared to standard in my own experience, and I'm sure any difference over Quaife would be a lot less than a second.
(This is on short 50 second lap of Lydden Hill, so a very decent gain)
But one of the main reasons for choosing the plated diff over geared was that some of the Saxo...
Definitely go to @NorthloopCup , but maybe also consider a Gripper plated diff if you use the car on track, particularly tight twisty tracks.
The gripper has been worth at least a second a lap on my car, and makes up for at least 70bhp deficit on a track with short straights.
Cost pretty much...
Ah! Many thanks, so the fact that we cut the pipes isn't necessarily a terrible thing. Good to know.
I'm too not bothered if someone with the knowledge and connections buys it from me and then sells it on for a decent profit, everyone's got to make a living, I just don't want to get completely...
I'm having a clear out, and have the OEM catalytic converter that we cut out from our 182 when converting to a race car.
When I say 'cut out' I do mean literally cut out as shown in the photos!
I've seen quite a bit on here and elsewhere about the fortunes that these are now worth. Obviously...
Ah, I know how you feel, it's great that something's working, but really not satisfying or confidence inspiring when you haven't definitely found a fault and fixed it.
I have a running battle with the bloody UCH, I've had it checked over by BBAReman and expected it to be faulty, but apparently...
This is probably no help at all, but I would be interested in the answer:
When the compartment temperature sensor is disconnected does it make the controller 'think' that it's fully hot or fully cold?
Might sound a daft question, but after stripping the car, including removing the internal...
