If you wanted a car that's British and nowhere near as good as an M5, why not buy an S-type R?
No, in all seriousness, fair play for putting money into one of these at this stage of it's life, i guess they're in a limbo stage now between not cool enough to be a classic but still relatively...
Firstly, the 197/200 gearbox is NOT stronger.
Long story short, there's not much benefit in swapping to a 197 engine from a 182. Cost and effort vs HP upgrade doesn't work. You'd be much better placed to turbo your current engine, or F4RT from a Megane is the more sensible swap because you'll...
Spending money on parts for a track car isn't money wasted. Buy a second hand set of Bilstein for £400 and they'll always be worth £400. Buy a set of buckets for £500 with subframes and they'll always be worth that. Buy a Whiteline for £100, well, you know the rest.
Buzz it out. Spray with WD. Buzz it back in. Buzz it out a bit more, more WD. Repeat until it comes out. Most come out first time with a decent buzz gun.
New propshaft bearing purchased as the old one was a bit rough/scabby. Full set of exhaust hangers, rubber mounts and backbox straps also, old ones had seen better days, of and a set of new crush washers for the PAS pipes, all of which need to be replaced when re-fitting.
Uprated engine mounts...

Cold is fine. Rain can f**k off.
Another good thing to come from today, have spent a fair amount of time under the car, and the shell is in great condition. No rust at all, bar the odd few bits of surface rust that will sand off. Over the moon, and I guess it helps to get a late example for that...
Today is a reminder of why I try not to work on cars anymore. I'm fucked.
Started about 9am. Old engine:
About 2 hours later, exhaust, prop, engine and gearbox out/off:
Gave the engine bay a good clean up, and about an hour later the new engine is in on it's mounts.
Loom, ECU...
To take the card out properly, you need a 17mm socket to remove the rear belt, and then torx keys for the speaker, but they can stay in if you just want to bend it out a few inches to have a peek behind.
It's been years since i've had a rear door card out, but pretty sure you lift up the bottom of the seat, unclipm it at the top with your hands and with a torch you should be able to bend it out far enough to see where you need to.
