The guy I spoke to is just for speed events, so hills and sprints but I suspect they would apply to circuit racing too. Can't say for sure about rallying but his reply suggests it would.
So far as I recall there are no regulations relating to the standard in which your car is built other than roll cages and other safety devices, seat mounts etc.
You can make your own parts as you see fit so long as they meet the other regulations, if they fail that's your problem.
Some...
I sent my local scruit an email with the pictures you posted of the rear axle, no go for me up here :(
I need to caution you that I think that your proposed mods would contravene S 12.8.2 AND 3. Blue Book page 332.
Further, the fact that it has been homologated is another grey area as the...
Thats a result then. When he says you may need to provide homologation papers, I assume you just need to prove that the S1600 cars had that semi trailing arm design?
I would potentially be interested in this but i'm a long way off needing it. Next time i'm talking to my local scruit ill see...
That last picture is proper drool material :D the other links dont appear to work though?
If I could get away with it in what I intend to do with my car I would potentially be interested in an independent set up but I suspect it would be some time before I was ready to do it.
The rule on...
I did wonder what the set up was at the back of the S1600 cars, I'm assuming there must be another part that ties the inner pick ups to the chassis some how? I'm liking that set up though.
The S1600 cars all 3 wheeled so while they may have been independent I'd be guessing that was possibly...
Looking good!
Regarding going independent at the back, if you're looking to do some more hillclimbs etc you know that will exclude you from competing in quite a lot of things?
Unless you enter the car in the Libre class (at least thats what it's called in Scotland) basically the "do what ever...
Cheers Neil
Yeah, things have been pretty difficult recently, lot going on, long and short of it is we're moving house again so the car has taken a bit of a back seat lately.
That said, I managed to get down to the workshop for the weekend and got a few wee jobs done. Not many in progress...
Are you still running the standard cup servo?
Could possibly look at using a master cylinder from an ABS car, sure they're bigger diameter which would reduce the ratio when running multi piston calipers.
Cheers Andrew, yeah it's just a copy of the cup racer subframe, I was thinking about trying to lower it slightly but the sump is already the lowest point. Once it's dry sumped (whatever year that may be lol) I'll look at dropping the engine and box a bit lower.
Just realised I had a few more pictures on my phone of the finished subframe.
I got in touch with a mate I've not spoken to for a while. He's now running his own business and as part of it he has a pukka grit blasting set up, ie a 20ft container with full breathing apparatus and...
I was going to use a floor mounted Tilton pedal box but I couldnt get the seat back far enough.
Shouldn't be a problem in your car but I would still be looking at an underslung type for this type of application.
Personally I would stay well clear of OBP, know a few guys that have tried them...
Yeah thats very true, thats partly why I'd opted for an electric pump, it can be moved to the back corner of the engine bay, low down, only short hoses needed and it's also close to the main starter cable so I'm going to piggy back it off that so there's minimal extra heavy wiring needed.
lol
It's tricky trying to keep the weight down though, it's tempting to bin stuff like power steering because it's a single heavy(ish) lump. I'm conscious that the car has put on a bit of weight in places I didn't want it to, i'm trying to claw some of that back but the proof will be when it...
I've not bought one yet, just been reading up on them, the seem quite popular, plenty folk using them for conversions on other cars.
The pump might be a bit of weight but it's a no brainer keeping the power steering in my opinion.
Long overdue an update!
I've had a lot on at home recently, it's a long story but the result being I'm not going to be building my workshop. I'm still able to work on the car where it is but progress has and will probably continue to be very slow for the foreseeable :(
I managed to get down...
The head appears to be a standard casting so in theory all the machining could be copied over to a new donor, the cost of doing so however isn't cheap.
One of the biggest issues is the two shafts the followers run on. I've enquired about a few ways to have this done, can either be gun drilled...
The racers used electric PAS, I'm still debating whether to go that route or not, it would mean a few changes to the wiring but nothing too major.
I'm going to use a different alternator than usual, a small lightweight unit on a custom bracket that will pick up on one of the new chassis...
Hi Fred, hope you got on ok making your engine mounts, any more questions drop me another PM
Crikey, nearly 3 months since the last update :dapprove:
Status on the Sodemo engine isn't good.
The damage in the combustion chamber wasn't too bad but unfortunately there is a deep crack running...
Great to hear how good Gripper are being with the gearbox issues, not many companies would go to this extent to repair something, especially given that it's a motorsport part. Definitely wouldn't get that service from Sadev!
This is going to be flying machine, hopefully you've had all your bad...
Really sorry to see this Dave, glad your getting stuck into the rebuild though, and it's good to see the club spirit with folk offering parts and help.
I was also a bit taken aback at how easy it went over, so like you, it would be nice to understand exactly what, if anything caused it, or if...
Regards the WRC car, are you 22B.com? plenty guys on there that would be able to help or suggest where or who to speak to.
Rear discs for the cup racer/laguna hubs can be made from the standard 172 disc. I've got a pair that have had the bearing machined out. You've obviously got the facilities...
Unfortunately i've not been able to get near the car for about 6 weeks :(
Some of you may be aware that I bought the damaged Sodemo F4R from Ian Godney ;) it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
After contacting a few places, the head has been sent to John & Mike at Race Engine Design for...
I knew the internal spline count was different, if you already have shafts then I'm afraid i cant be of anymore help.
I have Sadev/Cup racer shafts so the CV joint part number above is to suit them.
The part number for the CV joints I found is 303561 or 439RE0050 they are Lobro/GKN for a Mk1 Laguna. As best I can make out these are the joints the Cup Racers used, they will fit a clio hub but the shaft side has a larger hole/spline iirc so you would need to get shafts made. Ive not looked at...
No idea (probably don't want to know either!) and no idea lol
Most of the expensive bits are now bought but there's still a few biggies to buy.
Such as:
Bits to fix new engine
ECU
Throttle bodies
Springs
Tyres
If the new engine goes in from the kick off, its going to be dry sumped so there...
Your telling me its never ending!! Lol
Safe to say its snowballed a tad from what I originally set out to build but I should have known better, I can't do things by halves but what the hell, I'm enjoying it.
On that note I've just bought the damaged Sodemo F4R from Ian Seriously impressive...
Tubing the inner arches isn't a 5 minute job, if you've got access to a plasma cutter though it would make it a lot easier to chop out the big bracket for the engine mount, that was a tw*t to remove with a grinder and an airsaw.
I'm not sure if the cup racer mounts would fit, they aren't that...
