Not a huge amount to update, got about a day and a half at the car.
Finished bolting the front windows in and then started work on the gear lever. Typically got carried away with it and didn't really stop to take pictures lol
Thankfully I had a nice hefty bit of 12mm plate from a previous...
Yeah I bought the bolt on hinges and they're all interchangeable.
They come with new sleeves for the car side but I never used them, they were the same size as what was already in there, I assume you get them in case they're worn or you had to get rough to remove the old hinges.
Yeah if you could ask that would be great, not sure what I'll need, the 3.8:1 FD is obviously the first potential thing on the list but given the cost of buying the box and the work I've got to do to the house we've just bought, I'll need to tread carefully for a while until things settle down...
I appreciate that but a good clutch doesn't have to be an on off button, in fact, if it is like an on/off button it's arguable that it's not a good clutch !
A decent clutch should be happy to sit midway for a few seconds and cope with a bit of heat.
Certainly, if you could ask the question...
Granted if you just let the clutch out its going to bog down but if you've got a decent clutch that'll cope with some heat you can slip it off the line.
I've had several cars with a 1st gear that would do 50+mph and they launched really well.
I've got plenty time to weigh up the options, a...
Why's that?
I had a look at the ratios and compared it with what was in the gripper box, changing 4,5,6 and keeping the same final looked to be a pretty good set up but if I need to change the final then so be it but I don't want to shorten 1st too much.
Yeah, recon ill probably take it to bits for a nosey, the fact it's easy to strip down was one of the things that swung it for me.
What was it happened to yours again? seem to remember something about a bearing popping through the casing?
The ratios are very long yes, was thinking about...
Sadly I've not got any physical progress to report on :( The only time I got near the garage last time home was to collect tools to do some work on the house :dapprove:
There has however been a development in the gearbox department, I seem to have gone and bought an ST75-14 :D
Complete with...
Re: sonny172cup "track racer project"
Liking that!
I had thought about doing my car that sort of colour way back when I first started building it, really suits it.
Despite thinking everything was going to grind to a hault due to the pending house purchase, things have actually been moving along quite well recently.
All the panels are now fitted, just need to de-nib a few bits and a give it a quick polish. Still got to fit handles, mouldings and mirrors...
Don't use silicone!
My old man runs his own garage and I often help out when i'm home. I've done lots of clio sunroofs now and silicone is the worst thing you can use. I've had to redo several that have been attempted with silicone and it's a nightmare to remove it all. That includes terrible...
I'm offshore just now so i'm afraid there wont be anymore updates for a couple of weeks.
I've got all the small parts being painted while i'm away, door handles, fuel flap, door mouldings, mirrors, side skirts etc The doors, bumpers, bonnet and wings are all just about ready, just need a final...
Resorted to plan B
Had to get pretty brutal with them, but it worked a treat, both doors now close as well as can be expected. It was the A-pillar that gave before the hinge!
Today has been mostly about fibreglass!
I got a bonnet and tailgate from MC racing in France a few months ago, and a pair of doors from CMcomposites during the group buy.
The bonnet fitted surprising well, only needed very minor tidying up along the edges.
It's got no inner skin to speak...
You have a complete working car though! And working well, I've got that to be jealous of.
I thought you had stiffer rear springs than fronts, was actually going to ping you a message about it. Seems to be two different approaches to spring rates on fwd cars, instinct would say stiffer springs...
It did seem a little odd to me too at first but that's what's been suggested as an initial staring point.
Where the cup cars not along the same lines? ie really stiff at the back and softer at the front?
Yeah, know exactly what you mean, been there before!
Given the current situation with the house purchase, unfortunately the car is going to have to take a back seat for a while so it might be a wee while before its actually relevant
Yeah, aware of that Tony, as mentioned, with the current valving there's a fair bit of scope to go up or down from the rates mentioned. I discussed the use of the car at length with the guy at Penske so he was well aware of what I was using it for, once we get some seat time in it and a base...
At the moment we're thinking something in the region of 400 front and 500 rear but that may change. The valving is as such that I could potentially go a fair bit stiffer or softer than that, its fairly easy to have them changed should there be a big change in the spring rates.
Initially I'm...
Wasn't aware the cup ones were known to break but having looked at them I did think the rod end looked a bit puney. The fact it was in single shear wouldn't have helped either, as it may be subjected to flexing.
The lower rod end on these is pretty chunky and is based on a design they did...
Bit of both,
The front cases are custom but use standard internals, top pin and adapters machined to suit my top mounts.
The rears as you can see have threads on the outer case so the body is being used in a different configuration to suit a 36mm spring, the lower spring seat and rod eye...
Aye, we've managed nearly 10 years together so far so she cant be too bad lol
Shell ready for paint a few weeks ago when it was mad hot
And as it currently sits painted and polished up, not bad given that it was done in a shed, there's only one wee bit that's not 100% but unless I pointed...
Cheers!
The Mrs has said that she would rather I got the garage build first! Not going to argue lol But it does actually make some sense, having a workshop means doing work on the house will be easier and it also means I won't be travelling back to my old workshop all the time and having tools...
2 month up date!!
Unfortunately there's not a great deal to report. Progress on the car has been minimal recently but the outside of the shell has now been painted and various bits and bobs have been refitted.
I also got my suspension, ill post up some pictures next week ;)
The Mrs and I have...
