    The PH1 172 Appreciation Thread.

^^^That just doesn't look right IMO. Don't know why just looks a bit odd. Craig. Gotta say I prefer the darker wheels. Although it still wouldn't stop me pinching your car if I knew where you lived ;)

    Inferno on Rota's

Anyone else think they look dog sheet? Wide small wheels just don't suit Clio's. IMO of course.

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

As said looks really neat, them boost pipes make it look almost standard. If you're still struggling for a downpipe let me know. ClioTurbo have some available ;) Can sort you out a decent ECU as well.

Nice and clean! Wish the boost was going in the ph1 instead :D

    Engine noise

Unplug VVT solenoid and see if the noise stops. It does sound like it could be dephaser related.

    Turbo...

I was just thinking the same, Chip.

    Turbo...

For 6k you could go fully forged with 28RS and 330hp ;)

    Turbo...

As above you'll not go wrong. Email Admin@clioturbo.co.uk or Andy@clioturbo.co.uk if you want some more information. There's a few options, low blow being the simplest and most popular with results normally around 225-240hp with a similar amount of torque.

re map do I or not

On a bog standard car I wouldn't bother. Get some cams, exhaust, decat etc then map it and you'll notice a difference.

    megane 225 engine in a cup 172?

Well have a read of a few turbo build threads and FAQ's and see what you think, I've you don't really know much about 'tuning' then an engine or turbo conversion may be way over your head.

    megane 225 engine in a cup 172?

As above and a head transplant on it's own is pretty pointless when you already have a full 172 engine, may as well just fit some megane pistons if you want cheap, or forged if you want good.

    megane 225 engine in a cup 172?

A few different ways of doing it. You're still looking at thousands though. If you're trying to tune on the cheap then a 225 engine isn't the way to go.

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

Tres neat. That's what we always do with the Nimbus as well, chuck the soundproofing in the bin.

    White PH2 172...

Good work. Although the blue engine bay spoils it a bit.

New to renault, but won over by ph1 172 flamer, progress pics.

Love the attention to detail on this. Nearly shed a tear when I saw the ph2 wheels, though.

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

Actually it'll be nearer 10:1? Standard is 11.2 IIRC?
  17. WilkyWay

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

    Sweet. Should give about 9:1?
  18. WilkyWay

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

Good work! You crack on fast! I'd be getting some uprated mounts as well otherwise that actuator bracket will vibrate on the nimbus like a byatch! What size gasket is it?

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

Go forged or go home :D Which turbo do you get with the ED kit?

T-Cup - Clio 172 Cup Track Day Turbo Conversion

Good work Paul! Wish you'd spoken to us about parts first though, could have saved you a few quid. While the head is off get the heat shield off the back and put some nimbus is, its a right fork on fitting it with the whole engine in. Keep us updated.

How to get a bit more torque out of my 172??

If you want more pull low down you need forced induction. The F4r is designed to be revved, not to give you decent mid range. TBH the standard engine has more than enough power for you to have a lot of fun on twisty roads, not the fastest thing in a stright line but good on b-roads if you keep...

    Knockhill Reverse Day today

Looks like it might have been on it's roof? Or maybe just because it's been hit that hard at the back it's creased...

    Knockhill Reverse Day today

Fooook! That Evo was going well, looks like it's had a big shunt up the arse!
  24. WilkyWay

    Knockhill Reverse Day today

Brilliant day, none of the Clio's were being bullied by anything else. The opposite to this friggin Nova which was slightly quicker than us in a straight line and a liability in the bends, nearly ran into the back of him half way thru duffis when he jumped on the brakes when we were flay out...

    225 intake

They don't fit on a 172 head no. for reference this is how it fits in the engine bay. Plenty of room.
  26. WilkyWay

    Going to turbo my 172

As above, and you get a standalone ECU with the ARG ClioTurbo.co.uk kit. As far as I know you still use the standard ECU with the ED kit. For 5k I'd be wanting high boost and close to 300hp TBH.
  27. WilkyWay

    forged piston compression ratios?

Speak to Andy@clioturbo.co.uk he might be able to sort your engine build.
  28. WilkyWay

    forged piston compression ratios?

Yeah you'll want the engine out. In one go you'll need to do the clutch, pistons and rods, and belts. Everything else can be done in the car.
  29. WilkyWay

    forged piston compression ratios?

Forged rods are sensible as 300hp is at the limit or standard stuff. If you use Wossners with megane head gasket you'll have 8.5:1. With a standard clio gasket you'll have 9.0:1.

    Oil for my turbo

I use 5/40 in mine. Unless you're doing track days i don't think an oil cooler is necessary, although it's never gonna harm getting a thermostatic one.
