Hi,
When sat in traffic my car overheats.
The engine fan does not kick in.
I have tried disconnecting the coolant sensor then starting the car, but still no fan.
I have measured the voltage at the fan- 13.95v.
I assume this is correct for the higher speed and indicates that I have a knackered...
I've just put some £15 bulbs into mine as the standard xenons were crap- it's miles better and we'll worth the cost. Xenons last years compared to halogens, but do lose performance over time.
I got them from hids-direct. I think they are the yeaky ones.
On mine, there is an additional one next to number 4.
Number 5 is starter, 4 is engine management and the extra one was the engine fan. 100% this.
Either F, G or H is the throttle body one. I forget now.
When my car wasn't starting, I swapped 2 of the relays over under the engine, and I had these exact symptoms.
Worth a try I suppose.
I'm the engine bay fuse box, there are 3 black relays in a line. Swap the middle and right ones over. If this helps, then you have no engine fan and you need a...
For anyone reading this- don't bother with the cheap £13 tool- it was next to impossible to use as it just wouldn't grip the harder steel of the tie rod.
I ended up buying this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Inner-Tie-Rod-End-Installer-Remover-Tool-Set-Adjuster-Universal-Cars-1-2-7pc-/281832928322...
In case anyone ever has the same issue....
The voltage to the pump seems normal- it probably was very briefly hitting 12v but the multimeter wasn't keeping up.
My issue turned out to be:
- Broken headlight washer pump.
- 2 broken relays under the glove box(far left- closest to the pass door).
-...
The starter relay on mine was the one i've circled in red.
The relay circled in blue is the engine fan(it was on mine). Try swapping these two over and see if your problem goes away(you'll be ok without the fan for a day or two at this time of year).
If it does, you'll need a 20/10 12v relay...
I had the same issue on mine. Sometimes it would just get enough revs to start. Sometimes it didn't quite start. Always fine the second time though.
In the end it stopped starting.
Mine turned out to be the relay next to the engine fuse.
My Clio failed its mot the other day for headlight washers not working.
Seeing as 99% of the time it's the pump, I bought a new one. When plugged into the windscreen wash, it sprays the headlights fine.
But I get nothing when using the headlight washers. The lights are on during my tests...
I need to change my inner tie rods.
What's the best(ie cheapest) tool to use for this?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A9R25J8/?tag=cliospnet01-21
Or a laser spanner( And I assume this 32/36mm one would be fine)...
You cheated. You broke the track so no-one else could go faster. A'la Rosberg.
It would be good to get a list of the top 10 times. See how close it was at the top.
This. After years of having NFC, we finally get close to having a proper use for it and a flagship phone comes out without it. This is a dealbreaker for me. Other things like the lack of wireless charging and no SD card/replaceable battery are annoying but are not that important.
As others have...
I'll also be at CS this week- probably will travel with 172_Tom - seems pointless to take 2 cars. Feel free to meet up with us there.
Edit- just seen you're(TheRuttingChain") already looking to meet with Tom at P'boro services- i'll see you there!
You should easily be able to keep up with normal moving traffic below 3k rpm. They have 120+lb ft of torque at this time- plenty for a car weighing a little over a ton.
I suspect you may have an issue.
Right, another update.
I cleaned all the connections I could find, took the pedal off, opened it up and cleaned it, then did the same with the throttle body. I couldn't find anything wrong with these.
Then I saw a connector at the front of the engine- the wiring had been badly repaired before...
So on the way home tonight the engine management light came on as well as the coil pack light. The car went into limp home mode.
I managed to get it out of limp mode after 4-5 restarts, but the engine management light is still on.
I read the codes using my cheapo reader and it came back with...
Ok, the light came up again yesterday, so I guess it's time to get it booked in somewhere(or codes read by an RSTuner, but I don't have one, nor a laptop).
It does fit, but you won't be able to have any passengers in the car.
Bonnet in first, then loads of sheets on top of it, and the bumper over the top of this into the passenger seat. I had folded the passenger seat right down and it only just fit in for length.
