Why does your oil need addatives?
Oil companys spend millions in development of oils and addative packs, you don't need anything additional. Just a decent oil.

I can't see a problem with 0w-40 but some cars don't seem to like it.
We normally recommend 5w-40 synthetics because they are more thermally stable due to the narrower viscosity gap although basestock quality is important. 5w-40 also seems to be the general recommendation for these cars as...
Cheaper oils are in the long run a false economy, In the first mile the higher volatility, inferior anti-wear performance and poor temperature resistance of a cheap grade of oil will start to show. Obviously, there will be no immediate effects. The whole point of top quality oil is long-term...
I read so much stuff on the internet about Synthetic Oils that is simply not true so I felt it was time to tell the truth rather than accept the myth.
So in future when you see someone state any of these, please do me a favour and point them at this thread!
Synthetic motor oils damage...
In this cold weather, it is beneficial to use an oil that has good cold start flow properties as it will get to the parts of the engine that need it far more quickly.
The "w" number which means winter is the key here and the lower the better.
It may seem odd but a 15w or 20w will struggle...
Indeed, we ran an Elise with a Honda engine in it (tuned) in the Britcar 24 hour race at Silverstone this year on the same oil for the full 24 hours!
Of course it was a true pao/ester synthetic.

It's a hydrocracked oil, not in the same league as ester based ones like Silkolene and Motul and almost the same price per litre as well.
They do have Ferrari on the bottle though ;)

I would steer well clear of 10w-60 as it's way to thick which will cause friction, heat and engine wear plus lower BHP at the wheels and poorer fuel consumption.
The oil for these cars is sae 40 which is 14cst at 100degC, sae 60 is 24cst at 100degC, that's a whole 70% thicker than...
Nothing wrong with quality there, however the SAE60 is way, way out of grade.
You dont want to go any thicker than an SAE50 for a heavliy modded/tracked car.
Normally a good 5w-40 is ideal.
Cheers.
A word of caution – You get what you pay for!
Below is an article written by John Rowland, Silkolene/Fuchs Chief R & D Chemist for 40 years.
This article is something that all car owners should read and understand before buying oil and I’ve posted this with Johns permission.

The more modded or extreme use that the car is, use a better quality oil.
5w-40 can be petroleum based or synthetic. Synthetic (pao/ester) is the top quality one.
Basestock categories and descriptions
All oils are comprised of basestocks and additives. Basestocks make up the majority of...
Oddly enough your not far off the mark there!
The ultimate and best lubricant of them all is Castor oil, however it is natural so degrades fast and has no ability to become a multigrade, but its the best.
Cheers.
