It was a MPI cooper 1.3i in red with white roof and bonnet stripes. Inside was a half leather interior and walnut dash with a mini disc player! Sold it to a guy in Norfolk and nearly cried when he drove it away but the Clio more than made up for it. You're right about the similarities between...
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on the forum for a little while and asking the odd question. I thought I might do a thread on my 172 cup so here goes:
I bought it new in November 2002 and paid £11653. The car came from Milton Keynes and I was surprised that the guy who delivered it just drove...
Cheers,
I had a good look at the rear arches and have given them a really thorough clean
I'll need to get in touch with someone who can take a look and give me some advice. The car is safely tucked up in the garage now for the winter so wont be going near the mud/rain/salt again!
I'll get...
Hi Dave,
Great read and brilliant to see another 172 cup getting the treatment it deserves!
I've recently brought my 172 cup out of retirement (I've owned it from new) and have been doing a lot of the same jobs you have. Mine will also never be a minter but theres plenty of little jobs need...
Hi all,
I just wanted to give you an update on progress with the Clio...
I took it to Alex at AW motorworks for some bits and pieces to get it through the MOT and to my surprise it only needed a couple of things and came through with just advisories on two tyres and a cracked ABS ring (it's a...
Hi all,
I'm replacing my original 172 cup front splitter with a fabia one and I need to remove the remnants of the old one. What's the best way to remove the existing rivets which hold it on?
Cheers
Ian
Yeah my mechanic fell into the trap of throwing parts at it, which is great because I've got all new ignition bits but the mistake I think he made was to use a non OEM injector. Now I've replaced them all with OEM things are better.
I might be making more of an issue of the lumpy idle as there...
That's great to hear 👍
I took mine off the road after a misfire which I think I've solved with new injectors and other ignition parts. Although it still seems to run a but lumpy, it's not throwing up any codes or lights on the dash. I'm hoping the specialist can solve the lumpy idle, maybe it's...
That's great to hear, I suppose I've been getting too hung up on the mileage!! It'll only be increasing by 1000 or so a year if that now, so plenty of time to get to 300k! Cheers for the advice 👍
Though it's been off the road, I've kept it in a garage and given it a little run up and down the drive every now and again to keep things moving. My ex mechanic friend and I have given it a once over and inspection underneath and all seems to be ok, but I dont think we will really know until...
Great, thanks for the reply. What you have advised is exactly what the specialist has said to do so it's reassuring me that it's the right decision. I've done my own compression test and the results were good and a friend of mine has given the car a good once over for the other bits you...
Thanks for the reply,
I'll look into my insurance options, I don't intend to make any mods to the vehicle, except for maybe putting a stainless exhaust on (I've got through loads of OEM ones during my ownership!) Maybe I can find a cheap stand alone policy for the car, I'm 42 now so hopefully...
I've had my 2002 Clio 172 cup off the road for a couple of years now, but I'd like to get it back on the road to use as an occasional fun weekend car.
I've owned it from new and since it's done 158k, it might not be viable to proceed, but if it's a goer I've got one or two questions regarding...
I was wondering if anyone could give me some further advice....
With the help of a mate we have got the car running and I was at the stage where I was going to replace the injectors but now I can get it to start!
The immobiliser light extinguishes when the key is turned but then all I get is a...
Thanks,
I have scanned for codes and there are none showing.
The EML is off now and the horrible fuel stink has also gone away so other than the lumpy idle and a blowy exhaust it's running pretty well.
Cheers
Hi all,
I know it's been a while but the car is now running again, it seems to rev up ok but has a really lumpy idle (It's always been a bit lumpy but it seems worse now) could this be caused by dodgy injectors or something else?
The good news is that the compression test was ok so we are now...
Thanks for the reply, the car is a little way off being able to start but I'll get onto it.
That is the injector from the cylinder with the blackened plug. I'm a bit concerned that the new injector has already got a low reading, what do you think could be causing this?
Cheers
