Fitted some rubber mats to the front foot wells
Started to make some door cards, but it is quite tricky! Need at least three pairs of hands to hold, mark and drill/rivet. Have plenty of material and got one side made up I am going to try first before making the other door, but still have loads...
Hadn't thought of this. Personally don't like the idea but I can see it will work. Just wanted something a bit harder wearing. I would have kept the original mats but they were fubar, and stank and I had the blocked scuttle drain problem!
It's all done now, they are in and not moving!
I wasn't concerned about making it weaker, just concerned if I would hit something like a fuel line! It's a small French hatch back probably made of rust, surely not the safest of cars in a crash without holes in the floor.
I've got no carpets and did have the original mats too, but they kept moving about (plus they were knakard and needed changing). Now that I've painted the insides it's just a bit slick under foot so got some plain black rubber mats to help with grip.
Any reason for this? Is this to stop water getting in?
Did the same to an old track car and it worked fine....although that was trailered around and not driven anywhere and stored in a garage.
Got some rubber mats to go in the front of the car, I want to rivet them down to stop them moving around.
I can't see anything that I will hit if I drill the foot well, but just want to clarify before I go all hero with the drill and knock the fuel/brake line or something out!!
Its the second refurb in about 6 months, although I dont think I polished them enough the first time. When I made them black you could see it so I thought it best to redo them
YEah the spacers are perfect! Got some rears I need to fit at some point, just didn't get around to it this weekend.
Little bit more progress this weekend.
Re-refurbed the lights.
MUUUUCH better!!!
Painted the badges black. Now there isn't any chrome or blue trim left.
14 years of grime!!
Just need to wait for them to dry and put them back on the car. Looks a lot smarter I think.
Front wheel...
Snapped a bolt removing the bonnet. Snapped a bolt putting the ally one on. Snapped and melted several drill bits trying to drill it out. Ended up using three bolts and some metal epoxy adhesive. Bonnet is never being removed again.
Proper bodge job.
The rain can also do one as I need to...
Thanks, it's slowly getting there!
Yeah, the bonnet is ridiculous! I was really shocked, glad I have got one now.
Well the flocked parts were a bit of a mission....three deliveries sent out for one order and one went missing. Annoyingly it's a good product, just the delivery service was gash.
Few things have turned up to be fitted -
PMS RARB. This will be done in the new year when I buy solid top mounts and for the BC coil overs.
Ally bonnet + spray mist washer jets. This is this weekend's job. Didn't realise how light the bonnet is! I nearly fell over as I put too much effort into...
I am happy to have them like this if they are not going to cause pitting and that. Car should be back on the road in February so it shouldn't build up with occasional use. Oh, the handbrake is also off and held in gear on a flat driveway.
Does seem like a faf, but if I had thout about it I may...
As the car isn't being used atm the discs are getting a nice surface coat of oxide which would normally be removed by just using it
This is the current state

Rear:
Fronts are about 30k miles, rears were new this summer. The fronts I am not too fussed about if I need to replace them or...
I am hoping this! I want to unbolt the bonnet from the car, leaving the hinges and then the new one on. But was wondering why the new one has the hinges still attached to the bonnet, wasn't sure if there was a "trick" or anything to why they have been left on.
Just got my nice ally bonnet, which I didn't know was that light!
New bonnet has the hinges on. Is this a hint that the bonnet needs to be swapped with the hinges? Or can I remove them and swap for the ones on the car as from what I can make out you need to remove the wings to remove the hinges...
Car has recently lost more interior, like the carpets and roof lining and I've nicely painted it. Butttt....with this cold weather it is getting damp with condensation. I've put one of those dehumidifier crystal boxes in and it's quite full (will need to replace it soon) so doing something, but...
Just don't loose the screws and fixings!!
Door cars are simple, few screws and then just prize it away as it is like glued on with some kind of sealant.
The 172 is at my parents and I need to make sure I have measured the size of the door cards to buy some plastic. I have written down on my scrap of paper 1300x700mm. I just want to check this is right.
I know I have a Ph2 daily but I have no tape measure in the flat as the tools are at my...
Not too much happened this weekend.
Some more of my interior came back from being flocked...more items were missed off the delivery ffs. But what has arrived looks smart.
I know I need to sort out door cards, will ask for some material to make them fro Christmas and then get them sorted before...
I've removed the bit of trim where the hazard light switch go by the gear stick because it weighed too much lol. I want to move it to where the stereo went by getting a single din blank (already have) and then cut a hole in for the switch.
The original switch is an awful shape to cut a hole for...
I know, weather was awful!!
I've now sorted a RARB so just need top mounts, only so I have one job instead of two. Sure they will be loved!
Thanks, looks better now that I have tidyed up the cables and put the seats back in.
He liked the colour so much he even bought a Focus ST in the same colour
