Mk2 crownwheel needs to be machined to suit the blackline - the same as the quaife. The mk3 crownwheel is bolted on. Couldn’t say if the diff fits in a Meg box though I’m afraid.
Did a trial run with the diff fitting this evening. Fitting was fine and no preload adjustment required!
Heated the crownwheel and fired it on the diff.
Only negative is the thread for the nut isn’t as nicely cut as you’d get on a quaife, but, the nut tightens down to torque spec, so all good!
For anyone else interested in the blackline diff, I now have a blackline diff in my possession to fit in a mates gearbox. It’s nigh on identical to the quaife, and I will be fitting it in the box tomorrow evening for a dry run - just to see what the fit is like.
If it’s all good, I’ll then fit...
Right ok fair enough. Well there’s a strong possibility that there’s an unhappy bearing in there then if you can hear a droning noise.
Unfortunately these cars were built in the knowledge that they were going to be abused.
But the diff will make noises when it’s jacked up.
They all make a noise when they’re jacked up, so I’d advise that you drop the oil out of it and make sure the oil has no debris/particles in it.
The gearbox code you have is a jc5 089. You ideally want another one of those, or a 129 - this gearbox has a speedo drive as does your 089. I can’t...
It’s alright you ignorant f**k. 😂

The bell housing of a 197/200 box is huge in comparison mate.
Only real option is to find a 6 speed TL4 from a dci as they have a smaller bell housing from memory, then fit the 197/200 gear kit inside the box.
Next problem to overcome is the crank sensor position as it’s different on the TL4...
You need the upper casing half that’s got the twin taper bearing setup. The later boxes had a taper bearing and a parallel roller bearing, so you can’t use them as they’re not compatible.
If in doubt, upload images of the casings you’re offered and I’ll tell you if they’re any good or not.
Well that’s no bother to sort mate either way.
I’m Lichfield Staffordshire, so midlands basically. If you can box it up, you can get it delivered for about £40 using the ups option on interparcel. Just have to put it down as car parts! Put it down as a gearbox and they’ll refuse to take it lol
Well generally 9 times out of 10 they’re repairable. The only time they’re not is when it’s damaged the casing and allows the oil to come through into the clutch housing.
I’ve got plenty of spares to help keep costs down as well 👍🏻
In fact, that could even be a clutch cover failure after listening to it again.
Drop the oil out your box and have a look at the colour and fit bits of metallic particles.
Lolololol yeah that sounds pretty unhappy doesn’t it 😂 deffo sounds mainshaft bearing.
Does your car run a speedo? If it does, then that box *should work, but quite why they’ve listed a jb3 box up as a 182 gearbox is beyond me!
The dci boxes have shite ratios and are also no stronger than the 129.
It’s the torque that kills the jc5 unfortunately. The only way to not kill them is run decent oil and change it regularly.
The only potential option in terms of jc5 is to get the 089. They have taper bearings on the input...
