Thought I would jump back into this thread. Shot at Silverstone overnight last weekend and it's incredible how much difference a single stop makes in incredibly tough conditions. I was panning at around 11pm at night, when I had my TC on (which makes my lens an f4) it was difficult to see in the...
I prefer the originals 100%, far more natural looking, the UK is bathed in yellow light at night, I don't see why we should feel the need to hide it.
Anyhow, nice shots JJ, as somebody who shoots exclusively by balancing his camera anywhere he can find at night, I have a lot of time for these...
Vids are on the usual internet-video-depository-site, quite a few have been taken down though.
Lots of pics around but I think most people removed them when they realised how serious it was (as did I). At the actual event they seemed to gloss over it quite a bit, hence not many people...
Glad the lights were mentioned, what are the restrictions in that respect? Some cars had extremely bright lights which appeared to project quite a high beam, I thought must be putting off drivers in front of them.
Yep I heard earlier, the commentary mentioned a few times that he was fine so this was the first I had heard, I feel awful for posting crash pics (I've removed them from my webspace, still showing here for some reason though so I've asked a mod to remove them)
I just nearly pmsl at that. I only managed to spend a few hours at the event because I have a severe kidney infection and was drugged up to the eyeballs on codeine and antibiotics, so your comment was very apt!
It was £899 second-hand, so my two old (second-hand) lens covered the cost quite...
Great stuff, heard it was set out much better this year with the full circuit in use.
That Aston pic with his wheel off the ground (Esses?) is superb, love it.
Good to hear, the official timing says it ran for 23:36, so I assumed it retired shortly before the end but still completed enough laps to finish above the Elise.
Great performance from the 'unreliable' French hatch, I didn't stay till the end, apparently it didn't make it to the finish but completed enough laps to finish well up the table and just ahead of its rival (Elise 111S). A few stats...
- Finished 16th overall inc. 1st in Class (51 starters, 37...
On Thursday it was 50/50 whether I would be on an IV in Hospital this weekend, on Saturday I was at the Britcar 24hr (I had a ticket, I couldn't waste it!), so drugged up to the eyeballs on painkillers and antibiotics, I managed about 6 hours there. Didn't get the camera out much as I couldn't...
E&L get awful press, there was a huge Insurance thread on a photography forum a while back and hardly anyone had a good word to say about them.
Until that point I was going to go with them (they were cheap!), I've used www.photoguard.co.uk for a couple of years now, no claims but I know plenty...
No that's from all the Action Days (and Japfest) this year.
I like that 'BMW tool' gets a look in at the end, they were a genuinely idiotic bunch.
This is last years vid, incase anyone hasn't seen it...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ0-zkEyHIE, the standard has improved since last year!
Here goes...

Filmed over 6 or 7 events this year, it's actually been a relatively quiet year (although the BMW after 3 minutes is a biggy). A couple of Clios in there from the Performance Car Action Day
Forgot to say, my favourite angle at Avon Rise looks as though it's on its way out. Some ominous holes in the ground and area trenched out, which I assume will be for catch fencing.
Understandable, considering the speed at that point and the relative lack of spectator protection (about 15ft...
Cracking photos mate, all the pans are spot on. Any particular locations you found pretty good? I like the panning angle with just the grass behind it. I'm heading up there next weekend so would welcome any tips!
That's an infamous Castle Combe Bus Tour. Fully suited up racing driver takes people around for laps, the tip sensors and everything are all going off constantly during the lap, he goes pretty quick.
A few from today...
These ridiculous things do 100mph average laps, hit 130mph over Avon Rise and take Quarry at nearly 80mph...INSANE! The hardest thing I've ever tried to photograph.
and some more conventional stuff...
and no day out for...
