Off topic a bit, but the R8 waiting list is longer than the queue for most trains these days. Over 1000 people on the waiting list iirc in the UK, and they can only give us 750 each year.
Here is an example of 'too much glass and not enough talent' as I was mentioning in my original post, excited by the prospect of f4 at 300mm I -of course- started shooting at f4, which doesn't really work in all situations...
You wouldn't find a sharper picture of a Meerkat nose, but the rest...
pmsl, that is a concern at the airfield, the cars aren't exactly far away at the best of times. I could probably do some tax-disc checking right down to the barcodes.
Tropics pics are superb, I usually avoid those areas unless I'm looking around properly with the other half, as it's impossible to take pics.
I'm jealous though, realised it cost me £20 to drive there and back today. If it was a bit closer I would get a pass in an instant, it's so cheap.
Might be worth getting somebody to stand right up against the car, focus on them then switch to manual focus (and then leave it!). Then you should have it set perfectly, try and use anything between f12-32, that should give more than enough depth of field to get the whole car nice and sharp.
Yeah ok, rub it in, I have a 6mp camera ;)
Found it quite funny actually, got a k850i phone as a free upgrade last week, 5mp! Not far behind my main camera. 100% pointless in every way though, unless they figure a way to shoehorn a better/bigger sensor into a phone the ever-increasing mp...
That's probably exactly what it is. Auto-focus works by looking at contrasting areas, black cars can often completely screw it up as it can't 'lock' on very well, that's why it can be difficult to shoot black cars on track. First pic in particular looks like the car is slightly out of focus, so...
A few people were after 80-200s and 10-20s, well here you go...

Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED - £319
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC, Nikon Fit - £239
£400 second hand (£800 new iirc), so my 80-200 and 300mm cost me £900 in total, not bad considering that's over £2k of lens brand new.
Got it for motorsport mainly, works really really well with 1.4x telecoverter so I have all the range I need now.
Ordered my second-hand Nikon 300mm AF-S f4 on Thursday, arrived yesterday so I thought I would take it for a test drive today. Left for Marwell at 8:30 this morning and arrived dead on opening (10am), spent the full opening hours there enjoying the sunshine and the quietness of it all...
Not through Smugmug so much, I think maybe 4 or 5 lots from there, it's quite akward as it looks easy to buy from there but then you realise it's all US based, I publish me email address on the front page and most enquiries come straight through that. When I get a request I put them on Photobox...
I know pics of this have been posted before, but I've never seen it away from the studio shots, it looks even bigger in real life...

Artic Butterflys are awesome, I got one after trying various products and it's really really good (in fact it was free with a magazine sub that actually cost about the same as buying one on its own!)
Smugmug is good but to be honest I would go with Flickr (go with the Pro account), I have Pro Accounts on both and although I use Smugmug an awful lot I actually prefer Flickr, particuarly as a community.

Smugmug is obviously far more editable in terms of creating your own...
Just found something a bit inspiring, never shot at Silverstone myself as I assumed I didn't have the lens for it, but this guy mostly shoots there with the same set-up as me (Nikon D50 and Nikon 80-200), awesome...

I'm always on the lookout for used photography equipment, more often than not expensive stuff is well looked after, and if you find a place that grades stuff realistically and offers a Money Back Guarantee you're laughing.
Anyone got any suggestions?
I've just used...
pmsl, I haven't bought a lens for a year now (since 3 months after buying a DSLR, come to think of it), it is possible to restrain yourself and own a DSLR :)
If it has an AF motor it kinda makes sense, in fact it could be a good upgrade for D50 owners like myself.
Nikon have come a long way since the D50/D80/200 range, just done a bit of digging and this new one shares many of the same processes as the D300/D3, such as the EXPEED processor, dust...
The current one seems to be going very nicely, although I've completely failed to come up with anything yet.
New one will start at the end of this weekend, post your suggestions here and we will see if we can get a consensus of opinion by the weekend...
My suggestion: Yellow
I might try out the ROC post down past Salisbury soon, going to head down to Marwell Zoo anyway so if the weather is ok I might stop and have a look for it, looks cool (really well preserved) and would be a nice little intro into this little world.
