I've just posted a new thread in here for an initial project/challenge.
Not sure how a competition would work with voting etc so that would need to be discussed with admin/mods I guess, quite difficult without a seperate Photography sub-forum and I can't see that happening.
Concept:
Leading on from the drips project thread it's clear that we have loads of people who enjoy taking pics here, so to get us active in these dull wet winter months we will have a Photo Challenge every week or so to see what we can come up with. There will be no winners as such, but...
Plate looks really familiar on that, can't quite figure out where I know it from though. I know Jerry has a Trophy with WRC on the end locally, but I'm still sure I know this one as well.
You've got some patience! To me 40 days of driving joy is waaaaay more important than losing 5% one day in the future, at the end of the day the values are going to drop like a brick anyway, you don't buy a Renault for its resale value. I guess I'm subscribing to the 'you could get hit by a bus...
hehe, there isn't a single room in this house that I can access a switched-on lightbulb without getting on a stepladder :) They are all dull as hell energy saving ones now anyway.
Another suggestion..."Kitchen"
My reasons? imo the hardest thing to do as a 'photographer' is the photograph...
Amazing efforts from compact cameras, just goes to show it's not the equipment...
Anyone got some ideas on what we could do for the first "Cliosport Photography Challenge"? Hard trying to think of something that needs the absolute basic minimum of equipment, is open to us all and can be done...
I imagine it's a fair old job to work out appropriate discounts and then figure an easy way to sell them to us. I was thinking about how they would do it, individual discount codes or something?
Good to hear it will be getting some good hard use, no point preserving a car for any perceived value one day imo, far better to enjoy it whenever you can...which to be fair sounds exactly like why this was all organised/ what is made for in the first place.
How do you mean...in Photoshop? If so then no, mine aren't. Just cropped about 50% and some have a few minor level adjustments to boost the colours a little bit.
Clart's shots are pretty much spot on imo, the effect works because his are nicely graduated. Now THIS is a real uneven sky...
Sigma 10-20 @10mm with Circular Polarizer...
I did a test whilst stood there, my 50mm worked really well there with a CP but most of my 10-20 shots were...
Depends how much you are into them I guess, there is usually one film per year (although last year was awful) where I would have kicked myself if I had not seen it in the best possible way. The first time is the best with many films, so I like to think I made the most of it. Snakes on a Plane is...
Simple fact is that if we all got hold of our music/movies/games illegally, there would be no money to actually produce the stuff in the first place. So you freeloaders should be grateful to us legit peeps for keeping these artists in business :)
In all seriousness though, I don't think twice...
Nikon and Canon must be making a mint at the moment!
Basically the main options are the Nikon D40 at £299.99 with 18-55mm Kit Lens, or the Canon EOS 400D at £419.99 with 18-55mm kit lens.
Nikon obviously sounds the better deal, but it lacks an AF motor so you have to be careful what lens...
Pic #5 is awesome, the green looks fantastic.
As Pete says, the best way to focus is to stick it in manual focus, move something back and forth (I used my pipette) and look through the viewfinder until you find the right spot, then aim to drip in that general area, shoot about 200 frames and...
Agree and agree, unless you are lucky enough to have a D300 it's really really hard to tell if you've got a good sharp shot when shooting motorsport, I've lost count of the amount of amazing pans I thought I've got that have been useless when viewed at home on the screen. Best bet is to zoom in...
Love the second to last shot. Any ideas how you got 'crowns' instead of blobs for some shots?
Good idea for the winter months, have a little idea every week or fortnight to play around with. I'm sure there are loads of things that can be done easily in and around the house with no particuarly...
No idea mate, try it and see! Your flash won't get anywhere near that speed so I'm not sure what will happen.
At a guess it will become 10 times harder to get a shot, as you have to be even more precise with your timing.
^^^ Second and third shots are absurdly sharp, great shots.
What lens / settings did you use? Looks like a very fast shutter speed, water is almost ice-like.
Let the camera choose the auto-focus point (it shouldn't have any trouble), using a self-selected point is extremely hit and miss. I shot the whole of last season using self-chosen points, then someone suggested leaving it on auto, I couldn't believe what I had been missing out on!
...and I hate to get wrangled in this DSLR vs. Bridge Camera 'argument', but I would never say a bad word against bridge cameras, considering the range, compactness and quality of most of them they are a superb tool for loads of people who want something a bit more manual than a compact, but...
I was incredibly sick yesterday (think I got that Norbert-Virus thing) so I was a bit shocked looking in today to see how far this thread had gone! Awesome results, loving the ones on the compact cameras especially, just goes to show what you can do with a bit of creativity. Not too many in the...
Spotted this afternoon approx 3:30pm, between Westbury and Melksham on the A350. I was just moving out of the way of an undercover police Beemer (that was pulling a white MR2 over) as you passed.
Looked a bit tasty with the spoiler actually, really liking it.
A drop of red food dye and a bit of milk next. I wanted to get the 'crown' effect as seen in Pete's first shot above, but I couldn't get anything other than blobs for some reason...
