haha glad you found the guide useful :)
By all means have a play with HDR, but just be careful. For automotive shoots, the main editing I do is removing distracting things on the backgrounds like signs, dirt etc. Then basic curve, contrast adjustments etc
Having a creative composition can be...
Great shots for a first proper attempt. Nice to see photos like these with a corrected white balance!!!
Be careful with the HDR effect, unless it's done properly, which I've yet to see for automotive shots, it looks really amateur.
My only suggestion would be to experiment with your...
Cool, so at least there's a good group of us at the moment.
I take it weekends would be the best? Or at the moment, as the sun sets late, we could meet one evening during the week.
Thoughts?
...oh and we need to pick a nice location too! I know Dunraven Bay is a cracking place, pretty big, so...
For your budget, the D3100 would be best, the 18-55mm lens would be fine for most everyday situations.
I can't comment on what Canon can offer, I'm not saying don't get a Canon, they're great cameras too, but I'm a Nikon so I know nothing about them.
As you say, a bag and memory card would be...
Here's my 2c:
I've spend A LOT on my Clio, I bought it for £6k, and I've spent probably about that again on it. First it's my money, so I'll do with it what I will, secondly.... people will say what a waste of money...look at what you could buy for £12k!!
But....if I had that £12k car, it...
Get a fast road brake set-up, like DS2500s and Brembo HC discs. Don't bother with 4 pots or anything like that, overkill on a Clio.
Coilovers can make your teeth fallout, depending on the make. If yours is for road, I wouldn't bother with coilovers knowing what I know now.
Anytime really, as soon as the next couple of weeks if people are up for it, up to winter time where the sun is in a different position.
The advantage at the moment (summer) is you can turn up about 7pm ish, spend a while shooting and scout around for the best places to go during the sunset...
Excellent point Scott, I've been keeping an eye on that, at the moment the sun sets in a position which can give you shots like this:
So you can have the rock formations in the foreground, with the sun behind. It will vary a bit with each location, so we'll have a to pick a suitable one...
Seems there's quite a few folk around this area, and maybe others you would travel a bit to get there (myself included).
How about we get together sometime for a meet? So instead of a car meet where everyone just parks up with their bonnet open, we could do the same and be geeky over each...
I already went, that shot I posted above was 'that' shot. That was South of Newport, off J28 M4, then on the coast.
I've been to a few places in South Wales, Dunraven Bay, Nash Point. I'm always on the lookout for more places, I'm eyeing up a trip to Talgarth for some waterfall shots (but not...
I had 1144s, as Fred says, they turn to cheese after a few laps. I'm running PF97s now, amazing stopping power and they have yet to fade on me. My alloys have seen better days though, and there are orange specs down the side of the car lol
This was a bit lucky, I was waiting for a long exposure shot to finish (4 minute), looked up and there was the moon!
So I shot another 4 minute shot, and it captured the movement of the moon too, something a bit different ;)
