When cold, and engine off, it should go into all gears reasonably comfortably. With what you've said, it sounds like dogbone mount's a bit sloppy, but a gearbox oil change and linkage adjustment are cheap possibilities.

Check the linkage first. If it's anything like an RS, it's a hit and miss affair lining it up. Most **** it up first time,.

You're not obligated to get it repaired if you wanted to do it yourself. Just make them aware you're going to fix it yourself, and don't want to pay the excess, etc. Also, you can choose any garage you like to have the work done- don't let them push you to have it done any old place.

Some do it that way. I always use a funnel and length of garden hose in hole 2. 3 litres. Bang. Job done.
