When cold, and engine off, it should go into all gears reasonably comfortably.
With what you've said, it sounds like dogbone mount's a bit sloppy, but a gearbox oil change and linkage adjustment are cheap possibilities.

You're not obligated to get it repaired if you wanted to do it yourself. Just make them aware you're going to fix it yourself, and don't want to pay the excess, etc.
Also, you can choose any garage you like to have the work done- don't let them push you to have it done any old place.
Using the old ones is fine, matey.
Make sure you replace all washers/spacers between the stub axle and disc exactly as they come off. Oh, and make make sure the nuts are torqued correctly or you'll be changing them again soon. (:
