She's alive again!
Just ran it up to temperature and left it idling for a little while. All seems good at the minute. I swear the exhaust is louder, maybe because it's a ph1 lump with bigger exhaust ports I don't know.
New mocal cooler turned up and I've flushed the cooler pipes out and had...
Thanks Adam.
Engine is all built up as of tonight.
Didn't have a chance to get it in the car though so will have to wait until tomorrow. Need to order a new oil cooler tomorrow too as its full of swarf that I just can't get out.
Russ
Got the engine on the stand last night after collecting it on Saturday. All looks good apart from the exhaust cam pulley nut was rounded off by the last person who did the cambelt. It would have been near impossible to remove in the car with the access available. Made a right mess stripping it...
Can't do a lot on the Racecar until I get the new engine so just been making sure I've got everything for when it comes. ARP rod bolts turned up today along with a new set of plugs. Some oil will be here tomorrow.
Done a few jobs on the van, new sliding door seal, both front door check straps...
Had the head off and apart from 2 possible bent inlet valves that arent sitting properly it's mint, valve heads or piston aren't even marked, plugs, rockers and cams all fine.
Russ
Right!
If you hadn't gathered I blew my spare engine up after 3/4 lap of cadwell park in qualifying last weekend. Shame it had to happen on a race weekend and before it had even done a lap but so be it, I've done well with reliability Since I built the car so hopefully my run of bad luck is out...
Conrod felt a bit claustrophobic I think so have a hole in the block on cylinder 1. Obviously my spare engine wasn't a good one! Next stop silverstone!
Russ
Car is spanner checked and ready to go after being on the ramp tonight. Had a short drive in it aswell and feels exactly like it did before engine wise. All ready for cadwell tomorrow/Saturday.
Russ
It seems fine James and I don't have time now before cadwell. In theory it should be ok as they're both standard engines with the cams swapped over and timed up the same. Head etc is untouched and all the bolt on bits are the same. Time will tell!
Russ
Spare engine is built up and in the car. No leaks found at the minute. Been up to temperature and driven up the road. All good at the moment.
Feeling confident in making cadwell, even uploaded the cadwell file to the dash. Just need to put some fresh fuel in and get it on the ramp for a...
Sold it to a forum member I know on here, pleasure to deal with, collected and paid for today. I guarntee it would have made more money on eBay than I sold it for but a quick hassle free sale to someone that I trust was worth more to me. The car is still worth £2k all day long Imo if you're...
Not sure if I've done the right thing but my ph1 is now in eBay no reserve. Had it advertised for a month and have had more timewasters than ever before, even took a deposit from one that changed his mind without looking at it!
It's currently sitting unused and I need the space and the money...
It's been running and ...............
It's in bits again!
Still have a slight weep from the crank shaft oil seal so the spare engine is going in. Got them both on stands to swap the cams etc over.
I'll be at cadwell if I've got to push the car around!
Russ
All Renault main dealers 'should' have one, they won't use it very often so slip a techie a tenner and pinch it for a while, sorted!
@sonny172cup cracked diagonally across from the front towards the middle/gearbox end. Only reason I can see it is my sump is painted black and can see the crack in...
Guess every cloud has a silver lining and all that. Hardest thing about oil leaks is finding where they're from half the time so hopefully swapping the sump is the easy bit! It's definitely time to start building a proper motor now though before this one cries enough and my 'spare' motor has no...
