As for your sharpness query, Eddie, most fast 50’s stuggle with sharpness. You’d need the 50mm F1.2L to have anything near sharp for a 50 at wider apertures really. So I wouldn’t dwell on it too much, just give it a bit of sharpening in Lightroom.
You might want to see if it’s focussing...
I couldn’t vouch for your lenses holding their value, but I’m guessing that they will hold quite a bit of value providing they’re in good condition.
As for the Sigma 24-70, I wouldn’t go for a 24-70 on a crop sensor, 24mm on crop is a strange focal length, not wide enough, but not long enough...
Put it on the car and try pulling it (not hard obviously) and see if it feels sturdy. I have another action camera on a non official mount and it’s fine, I’ve used it many times.
First try out of the 24-70 yesterday, I’m going to Liverpool at night sometime in the next week to do some stuff around the docks etc

I saw this pair at Oulton Park earlier in the year, awesome cars. The video is a cool insight into it all too.
This is one of one of them from August at Oulton Park-

Merry Christmas, all!
Anybody get anything photo related for Christmas?
I'm loving the new L lens, hopefully I'll have some Landscape stuff coming up soon in the new year :)
Well I’d put the camera in shutter priority (or manual depending on wether you’re accustom with manual settings), and select a shutter speed that is fast enough to keep things sharp, yet slow enough to blur the wheels and the background, so maybe 1/100th or 1/160th.
I found this for a family member who wanted a cheap compact, very good for the money, the images are surprisingly good for what is a £70 camera. Some interesting effects and things if you’re into all that, and a 720p HD video mode too.

Have a look at these Sans Serif ones on DaFont, there’s a huge selection, so one should fit the bill, then you simply download the font :)

Another one I liked from Oulton Park, starring a bloody quick Civic lol. The noise of this thing was immense, there wasn’t a head that didn’t whip round when this came onto the pit straight -

I wanted to make an effort over the usual mundane trackday photos you see.
I revieved an email afterwards from a guy I sold photos to on the day saying how they were the best photos he’s had done of his car and that he was chuffed with them, so I has happy with the positive response :)
In all honesty I can’t think of one off the top of my head, but I’m sure somebody will be able to help me out. I’ve seen such pages on my newsfeed before, they usually post random things from all sorts of areas, posting stuff like ’25 amazing views’ and suchlike. It could be good for traffic on...
Another great re-creation in Lego, Tom!
Once you’ve done a few more it might be worth seeing if some large blogs or Facebook pages want to do a feature on your work showing certain scenes etc recreated in Lego! It’d definitely be something that those sorts of pages would like to post with it...
So I’m nearing full capacity on the Hard Drive in my Macbook (250GB), so I’ll be needing to purchase an external hard drive.
I need a hard drive that will be the easy to use and is compatible with my Macbook to make using it as smooth as possible. I will also need it to be of a fairly large...
Fair enough.
It's obvious that I'm fighting the tide with this one. I'll leave it at PERSONALLY I prefer gear that I can rely to get me the shot I want. Don't misconstrue this for laziness, it's just purely having the means to express your creativity rather than unnecessary fuss :)
But back to the original question...
To answer the original question in simple terms: No, some of the photos do not require the best gear, but some require better gear to archived that level of quality such as Riad's work where the action requires good lenses and bodies with good AF etc.
That’s all fair enough. It all depends what you’re comfortable shooting with, there’s no point in using a terrible camera to prove a point, just use whatever gets you the image you want, it really is as simple as that.
