Re: White Trackday 172 Project
I think the 3 full days will be spread over the next 3 weeks! The next step is engine in on the mounts, cup alternator setup on the block first. Then the engine loom has to be modified to run the battery in the back of the car, ECU will stay in the bay. Engine...
Re: White Trackday 172 Project
A few minor updates,
We're getting closer to to the finishing line, another 3 full working days could see it fire into life and hopefully the main parts done. It's the small details and jobs i'm working on in between my friend coming over to keep it going, i...
I'm liking that idea :D i've been reading some threads about the cost of new PAS lines from Renault, kerching.
I'm fitting a new cambelt this weekend while the engine is out, hopefully the Cup alternator parts will be with me by next Wednesday so i can get that on as well :)
My bonnet arm is also riveted to the underside of my K Tec carbon bonnet. It also has the threaded holes cast into the bonnet so it can be used on the original hinges and the bonnet catch from the original bonnet fitted
Thanks for the super quick reply Jay! That's brilliant news, been speaking to the parts guy at Renault to get part numbers and prices and it seems worthwhile to purchase it all new
The engine is out of my phase 1 Clio 172 and i'm looking into losing the AC pump and fitting genuine Renault Cup parts. The question i have is that the Cup model is the phase 2 and uses the CB1 engine, the phase 1 engine i have uses the C0 engine. Does this make a difference? Does the phase 1...
Re: clio track car just brought it any ideas????
Looks the part  is this Cit-Rens old car... If i remember reading about it, it can't go on the road?
Re: White Trackday 172 Project
Popped down to our local scrapyard Saturday for a few bits and pieces, on the lookout for a cigarette lighter 12V feed and a dashtop from a later Mk2 Clio (02-05). While i was there i spotted a silver 172 so i took some plastic parts from the inner arches.
Mk2...
Re: White Trackday 172 Project
So, with Wills and Kate tying the knot this gives me the day off to put a bit more in. Time to get those seats in.
Subframes bolted to the seats
25mm spacers
Seats now in, Sabelt harnesses in place, also fitted the OMP steering wheel too
I was lucky with mine as i used the blue Clio interior as a guide to where everything plugs in. So we had the interior loom sitting in the white shell then labelled up what went where while cross referencing. TBH i'm not doing the loom/electrics, it's in the capable hands of a friend that is a...
Re: White Trackday 172 Project
I had to modify the seat subframes to utilise the oe mounting points in the blue Clio as the subfames were for a Fiat Bravo. What i realised in the white shell is the floorpan is different to acommodate bucket seat sidemounts. So the seat subframs i modified now...
Re: White Trackday 172 Project
A few bits been done since the last update so here we are with pics
Shell is cleaned, the blue Clio is off the road, SORN so time to take exterior parts of the blue and ontohe white
Phase 2 rear lights
Plastic side trim
Headlight
Cup racer replica...
Re: White Trackday 172 Project
Sleeves were tacked in after that pic
Engine plans, nothing exciting yet. I have a set of matched inlets to go on and decat. I already have the K Tec stealth exhaust.
I'm 36 in July and have been in Clio 172 ownership for almost 3 years now, i've been into hot hatches since passing my driving test in 1996 and at this moment in time have no intentions of driving anything different. I too owned 5 GT turbos for years in my late 20s early 30s but found the 172...
RE: Heater matrix delete pipe, that 180 degree pipe 19mm ID, would that fit on the OE heater matrix pipes ok? I'm doing exactly the same in my engine bay. Did you buy it from 'autoperformanceonline' from E Bay ;)
Massive props to you on this project, attention to detail is awesome
Hehe yeah it was a ball of wires inside and nothing on the outside! Next weekend I hope to lift the engine out to give it a paint up ready for its cambelt and other belt changes
Christopher: The supercharger, engine etc was all sold. The only thing left which I bought was the bare shell with the rollcage
Jack: I thought I'd paint the wheels black to go with the plastic side strips and the foglight ducts. I had the carbon bonnet on the other Clio so I thought I'd fit...
I've just weighed the carbon bonnet and the steel phs1 bonnet to see the difference
Carbon: 8.3kgs
Steel: 12kgs
Just thought i'd post this for the peeps looking into losing weight from their Clios
Thanks for the positive comments peeps, i've been out working on it most evenings after work and try and get a day on it on the weekends
Put the carbon bonnet on it earlier but undecided, the girlfriend also re-colured the stitching on the Cobra bucket seats to match the rollcage...
After a 12 hour stint on the white Clio on the good Friday, the white Clio 172 finally came off the 4 axle stands and is now sitting on all 4 of its wheels.
Jobs done:
Hub assemblies with discs
Calipers and braided hoses
FK front coilovers
Polyflex uprated inner and outer ARB bushes fitted...
Personally from my time in this club a few people will go with the B14 when people ask for recommendations. The way I see the FK coilover kit is it fits nicely in the price range between your K Tec, Weitec at say £300-500 area and your £800 plus B14, AST etc.
The dampers on the FK kit are made...
Really happy to finally have adjustable damping again, i liked the option on my Koni yellow sports suspension. Now i can dial them in to have the car set up just the way i want it :)
Super chuffed to come home to these earlier. After Venom bumping up their prices by £200 and telling me to wait 2-3 weeks i ordered these from europerformance last Wednesday, 5 days not including the weekend direct from Germany. Can't wait to fit them on the white project Clio 172 this weekend...
