sorry i'm missing it, where does it mention the use of the performance graph tool? highlight it for me in a quote as iv read it 5 times now and still cant pick it up! also post your graphs if you have copies of them.
Have you played with the performance graphs on it yet? I tried it on mine the other day and it seem good enough to gauge the change between standard and 98ron, so when I do mine, I will be taking a performance graph before and after the flashing. Will be running it in gear 2 though as in the...
Might just need a new head (by new I mean second hand), not a whole engine. Best bet is to take it to a garage, see if they can identify if its coming from the valves or small/big ends. IF its form the valves, get a replacement head. If is from the small ends, replace the damaged piston, if its...

if its the dephaser, then it *should* get really noisy before imploding on itself, so you should be ok. In fact, i'm not sure any of them have done this yet? Obviously the risk is the cam belt slipping/coming off if it does implode.
the D40X uses a different sensor than the D40 remember, ISO grain is pretty good imo. I hope D5100's aren't going really cheap at the moment now Naill :p
In SLR/DSLR terms, the body means 'without lens', i.e, it is just the body of the camera. Most DSLR's wont come with cases, but the will come with straps. As they are quite big, its normal to go out and buy a camera bag the suites you and your needs (I,e, you might want to carry an extra lens...
Well what you want to ask about is the shutter release count. If its 40000+ then don't buy it as it will fail soon! I imagine the really cheap ones will be on a high shutter count. I might be selling mine because I bought a D5100 from someone on here :)
If you actually want to learn properly, get a DSLR. As its your first camera and its to learn on, I would be getting a second hand camera like the Nikon D40X/D60 just in case you find you don't actually use it. I can vouch for the D40X as a bloody good camera for beginners and it will teach you...
Id go with option 2. You don't need to fill the whole boot space though, I run a 12" Pioneer TS-W3004 in a relatively small box that only take up a 1/3 of the boot and produces a s**t load of bass.
