Looks aside (which I appreciate are a bit Marmite) what's wrong with it?
1,150 kgs, enough power/torque to pull the skin off a rice pudding (something my 200 always struggled with), and a really really good chassis. It's really biddable on the throttle, I think it'll prove to be an absolute...
How much space do you really need? Do you want 35 mpg or 45 mpg? Apart from that, flip a coin, they're great cars.
I've just given mine a quick rinse and my ancient Galaxy S seems to capture the colour quite well...
Maximum baller, right there ^^^ ;)
I'd love to be able to say that a £40-£80 a month saving from a slight change in driving style is pointless, but I can't as it isn't pointless to me.
What does not caring about fuel consumption give you in return?
I drive the same roads day in day out.
In my 200 I could get 40mpg or I could get 30mpg depending on my approach - but both driving 'styles' would get me to work in the same amount of time.
So the extra £20 a week from getting...
£125 p.a.
My 172 Cup? On road or track? On track I'll be able to tell you after 10th August...so long as it's dry at Goodwood. Not fussed if it is or isn't tbh. I know I keep saying it but until you get behind the wheel it's difficult to appreciate just how right Ford have got this. Pace is...
Said already but I'll say it again as I think it's the single most important factor in getting good mpg, and that is, look ahead, plan, and BRAKE LESS.
Holding a constant speed uses very little fuel (unless you're sat at 70mph+), it is accelerating that burns it up, and every time you press...
I don't know how you're coping...the wait was absolutely killing me!
No specific running-in routine as such, just being sympathetic with the motor. Doesn't need thrashing as it flies at 2.5k rpm so it's easy to just surge along on the torque.
I've had a few exploratory runs early on near 5k...
In my 172 Cup I could never really get behind the driver's seat if it were setup for me. In this, I'd be happy to ride back there...much better use of space and far more than in a 1*2.
I still have not seen a single ST on the road other than mine! I have no idea what they look/sound like as...
Too early to tell I think, brand new engine, tight, and I keep flooring it everywhere. Much better than the 200 though...if I drove that like I've driven this I'd see mid to late 20s so I think it's circa 10 mpg better already
I'll try for a full tank next driven sanely.
Actually, scratch...
56 litres apparently...I last brimmed it at 221 miles and the trip shows 40 or so miles remaining...so it should work out to be around 35 ish mpg.
Still not happy though...it looks soooo much better in the flesh, my really sh*t camera does it no favours.
Seat is almost worn out now...
As requested;
...and a couple of others...I think my camera got confused by the sunlight on Sunday, these look much deeper
550 miles now, almost due a fill up...should be late 30s mpg at best as I've been booting it everywhere...the boost is addictive.
I think this is why I like mine so much...I never really even noticed the first pre-facelift model, it was never on my radar for anything.
So the way it looks to me now is just right...as I never became accustomed to it before they gave it the guppy mouth.
Will sort one out for you tomorrow...they are 5 seats, but the centre rear headrest is something like a £50 option. You still get the centre 3 point belt regardless.
I like this Rob, very nice.
I love the fact that you still have orange s**t on each corner. I've always been comfortable with orange on/around the corners myself.
But according to CS folk lore that makes you gayer than gay...something I've never understood.
Agreed...the rear clusters pointing skyward and that lower bumper/'diffuser' are the worst bits...they don't flow or make any sense to my eyes.
Goodwood in August...should be nicely run in and loosened a bit by then.
Is Harv's point not that whether they were actually there or not is irrelevant. The statements they gave are NOT the reason liability went against you.
With that being the case, why does it bother you? You were ALWAYS going to be liable because of what you did.
Compared to my non-Cup 200 it is firmer, not by much though, so I'm sure it's less firm than a 200 Cup.
Economy now with 400 miles on the clock - a spirited drive in this morning with a few overtakes thrown in saw 43 mpg avg. I'm going to reset it and give it a hard run home tonight; I'm aiming...
Lot's of love it seems for these!
Just been making the most of the weather and nipped out to get another 20 miles on the clock, stopped at a petrol station for some water and two people came up and spoke to me about it!
Realised with the windows down today that I can hear whatever it is...
Never even considered it. I wanted a replacement for my 200...I didn't need anything bigger.
So Fiesta (same size, incredible economy, strong spec) vs Focus (bigger, lesser economy, lesser spec, slightly more money).
Fiesta wins all day for me.
Is it special enough to move away from a 200...
I've not done anything like that yet, can't wait to have a go though...I'm going to build up to it slowly though I think.
I did go around a small roundabout in 2nd gear this lunchtime and planted my foot way before the exit...I just got dragged round and fired off up the exit.
No scrabbling...
