    Jon's Trackday PH1 172 project thread

You're a brave man Jon!!! Good working getting it this far though, looks good with the contrasting colours, LOL at everyone wanting a piece of you.

what happens when you have a blowout...ooouuccchhhh!

I'd agree with this ^^^. A blowout on the unloaded inner tyre while going around a bend...isn't likely to spear you suddenly inwards and up a verge to summersault over a wall. Is the "NSF tyre blew" an excuse just to save face? Realised the tyre blew in the process so you could blame that for...

    Brake setup advice

As above, leave the rears well alone, my original rear discs/pads from the factory lasted 90k miles they do so little! As for the front, as has been said, Brembo HC discs are enough, with whatever pad takes your fancy. DS2500 can wilt, but CL, Pagid or PF pads tend to soak up the abuse. Lines...

    De-cat gains

I've recently put my cat back on and left it, having been decatted for the last 100k miles. The engine feels blunt and muted now, not right.

Cruise Control and driving at a consistent speed

You sit in lane 2 regardless of speed/lane 1 traffic? The randomness of other drives beggars belief sometimes though, I tend to always find someone who resents being overtaken, so comes past, then slows down, so gets overtaken again, then comes past, then slows down, so gets overtaken again...

Any recommendations for a good Renault garage in Worthing

As above, Rentech. They're the only ones to have had their hands on my 172 Cup throughout its 9 year 130k mile life so far...and they'll be the only ones I'll trust with my 200 too.

Quick insurance question, help appreciated :)

"This would be spread across your remaining monthly payments" ^^^ this seems pretty self explanatory to me.

    who's fault was this ??

It's the insurers fault. I've got two works van at the moment that have been flagged up via ANPR as having no insurance. I've provided copies of cover notes/policies etc. and they've told me that they levy a penalty against the insurer for not updating the database the police use. It's the...

    advice needed

Correct, he'd have had to take it on the chin, unless he had asked something like... "Is there anything else I should know about which, if I was aware of it, would affect my decision to buy the car or the price I'm prepared to pay?". However, that then comes down to verbal discussion etc...

Rejecting a duff car - where do i stand?

Do you have contents insurance? With legal cover included? If so, call them, this is exactly what that sort of cover is for.

    advice needed

Apart from the fact that said traders friend is a user on here...and would likely have been able to get evidence that the seller knew of the problem beforehand. Revels, if you lie to induce someone into a deal, as a trader OR random member of the public, you have done wrong. The courts would...

    advice needed

Technically Revels he'd be in clear breach of contract as he misrepresented the condition of the vehicle i.e. knowingly made a false statement/withheld information in order to secure a sale. The buyer would have had recourse through the courts for the "lie" told by the seller. So not black and...

    stupid design

LOL, I'd sell it, what a fcukin' ball ache.

Hard Acceleration = Loose Front End

Torque steer? Mine becomes very twitchy once the tyres get a little wear in them, can be quite a battle to keep it in a straight line.

how much to get a clio track ready??

As above, but forget the sportlines. I did this 130k miles ago, and it's still going strong.

    Average owners age?

    41 here, I've been smitten since I ordered my 172 Cup when I was 32 and 3/4.

No surprise there, he absolutely loves them.

    How not to detail.

IIRC correctly I made a mistake on my above post. Noted. Thanks.

Whats wrong with your car right now??

Very very slightly warped front discs. Either that or my calipers are fcuked.

FLOL, far more interesting than the usual "I washed it using XYZ and the 2BM method...".

    6800rpm limit?

Agreed...it's pretty much useless beyond 6.5k...but it does help save the odd pointless gearchange here and there on track.
  22. MarkCup

    6800rpm limit?

Pah. 130k on mine, never missed a beat. I'm sure it'll go eventually, but it's been like this from 2.5k.

You didn't go and see him I hope? That would have been about the worst thing you could have done, as by doing so, it would let him know that you accepted there was an issue that needs sorting out. As SO many other on here have alreadys said...there is no issue that needs sorting out. He's a...

    6800rpm limit?

Clio 200 - Tell me everything. Sell them to me.

That's the bloke I bought mine from, seems he has a slow and steady turnover of these going through. Recommended if you're looking for a used one.

    Finally test drove a 197...

So true LOL I wonder who's going to be the new 'King Stromba', refusing to accept the current version may be better in certain areas than the outgoing/long gone model? I used to see 40mpg in my 172 Cup. In my 200, I'm now regularly seeing 35-37mpg...all country A and B roads though.

Clio 200 - Tell me everything. Sell them to me.

I never liked the look of them without spoilers, always thought they looked a bit Chrysler-Crossfire-dog-taking-a-dump like. Now I own one I can see past that...I think they look much better without...as you said, cleaner.

Clio 200 - Tell me everything. Sell them to me.

Ooh, lots of love for the 200s in here now! Dave - you've spent to long driving about in Bimmers, no wonder you think the inside is cheap and tacky, to me coming from a poverty spec 172 it is a Maybach LOL As for steering feel/weight...it is light yes, it is lacking a little feel, yes, but...
  29. MarkCup

    6800rpm limit?

Not sure this is 100%. Mine revs out to 7,750 rpm (indicated) in all gears...well, as far as 4th gear anyway.
