Hadn't tried any lube before posting about it squeaking as wanted to double check it wasn't a big no-no to lube bolts like that. I lubed it with some WD40 on both the beam thread and the bolt and there was barely any squeaking with the bolt going all the way in on a setting of 105nm! Difference...

After some wire brushing, it appears to be going in but it's now squeaking when turning after a certain point, is that normal?

Will dutifully wire brush the bolt! I was maticulous in not confusing the bolts, everything for the n/s stayed on the n/s of the car and everything for o/s stayed on the o/s so I couldn't make this mistake! I figured they'd go back in easy enough if I put the same bolt back in the same hole but...

Yeah, it's on axle stands w/ trolley jack holding rear beam up in place so that the holes on the shock + beam are aligned. used a torch and checked fairly thoroughly that they were matching up just right!

Thanks for such quick replies guys - I think I'll have a crack at it tomorrow. Is there any way to measure the torque I'm putting on the bottom bolt? Have read figures of 20-30n for top of strut and 105-130n for bottom. I have no experience with torque settings or anything to know how tight...
