That's good news, might speed up the process of getting it back together a bit.
Thanks again for all your help, although there might be more questions to come yet 😂
Bit of a delay as I had to make a puller for 5th gear. You were spot on about the broken piece being from the 5th gear selector fork, the plastic end is missing off one side of the fork too!
I'm going with that option too 😂
Next question is are the outer casings interchangeable between the JC5 129 and JC5 130 boxes? If they are I think my best option is to get a normal 172/182 box and some new bearings and just rebuild it providing I don't find any other damage.
I can't find a JC5...
I've only got as far as loosening off the nut and bolt holding 5th gear on so far but I noticed a big lump of metal down near the diff so I made the hole a bit bigger to get it out 😂
It's aluminium so guessing it's from the casing somewhere? It's pretty mangled so I think this is the piece...
Well it's out now, I would normally have taken it up my mates workshop and used his ramp but with this lockdown had to make do with the driveway and a few trolley jacks ☹
Anyone want to guess what happened before I whip the casing off, something has got wedged somewhere I reckon to push the...
I wouldn't even attempt it, that casing is fit for the scrap bin only 😉
Just need to find a cup gearbox now with the speedo cable drive, or failing that is the only difference between the 2 boxes the speedo drive? If the other half of my casing is ok I could always get a normal 172 box and...
I've only got sellotape, will that do 🤔
Luckily I was nearly home when it happened, surprisingly it still drives fine and will select all gears so I'm curious as to what part of the box has escaped through that hole.
Might take it off later in the week and get the box apart for a look.
I think it might be 🤣
I noticed a very faint noise appear like a brake pad on the metal from the front of my 172 cup earlier on, I carried on driving for a few mins to see if I could hear where it was coming from. I heard something ping off the exhaust then the noise stopped, then I could smell...
They seem a bit expensive even though they are fully fitted, I have access to a tyre machine though so probably out of touch with fitting prices!
I always buy my tyres from here...
Replaced another injector!
I was just going to just buy 3 as I had one go a couple months ago so thought I might as well just do them all now but Euro car parts only had 1 on the shelf.
Had this on the drivers side of my 172 cup a few months back, it'll definitely be that if they are still rusty. I had to use some wet and dry on a couple of the terminals to completely remove all the corrosion as a quick clean did nothing.
Once I'd done that the fog light bulb stopped lighting...
The Papa & Nicole adverts from the 90's always seemed to be more about the people than the car, guess they worked though.
We've had Lesbians in a Clio, a drag queen and a Twingo, at this rate it has to be a transgender Megane driver next surely 🤣
I think the marketing people at Renault put the lesbians in just to take the attention away from what an ugly blob the car is . . . . . . . . . looks like it worked 😱
I spotted this yesterday and bought 4 Pilot sport 3's to replace my worn out P zero neros.
Hopefully they'll be an improvement as I didn't find the Pirelli's that good in the wet.
I've just got back from digging it all out and I had more bits than I thought, no crank though and unfortunately one of the pistons has scored the liner.
I'll try and dig it out in the next day or so and have a look, I think the conrods are all there but not sure about the crank. I know I binned the block a few years ago as it was in the way ?
I'm a bit of a hoarder, I found a load of Cavalier Gsi bits too!
I was just about to advertise the Spax lowering springs I found off the GT turbo I sold about 16 years ago as I'm moving soon so having a clear out.
I'm sure I've got a box somewhere with most of a bottom end in it, pistons, liners, camshaft, oil pump, etc. Is that lot likely to be worth anything?
All 90's stuff seems to be going mental now!
I've got a white uk spec Sunny Gti-r tucked away in the garage, I'm seriously thinking about taking out the 2.3 stroker engine, Quaife box, big brakes etc and restoring it back to standard!
That's my plan. I bought one for £1500 that had all the belts done and is in pretty good condition apart from a few dents in the bonnet. I've replaced all the dampers and a couple engine mounts & a wheel bearing but parts are pretty cheap.
I'm just going to keep it standard and enjoy it, I...
I'm going on Sunday now, don't think I would have paid to go there but I work in motorsport so managed to get passes.
Haven't been for a few years, I'm going to try and watch a bit more of the action on the hill this time.
I finally got round to changing the rear dampers yesterday which has sorted the problem.
I knew it was that as soon as I removed them as they both compressed with virtually no resistance and the drivers side had no resistance at all in the first inch of its travel. Unsurprisingly it's...
Mine is on 99,900 at the moment. I've only had it a few months, the previous owner spent money on all the major bits like belts/dephaser etc but there are a few minor electrical faults that need sorting out. I've just bought a new set of suspension too which will hopefully make it handle like it...
I changed my upper gearbox mount last week and now these have stopped working. The wipers work normally and button on the end of the stalk but nothing else.
Just wondered if it's coincidence and I just need a new stalk or is there anything I could have knocked in the fuse box area or under the...
I've got to know all the places on the roads where it happens now and accelerating hard definitely helps things. As you said it pulls the rear round and lessens the amount of rear end movement.
I wanted to replace the shocks anyway as I'm sure they're old and past their best. I'll do the rears...
Rear dampers aren't new, I'm just about to order all 4 so looks like doing the rears will be the first job and hopefully that will sort out the dodgy handing.
Thanks for the replies, I'm wondering if the dog bone mount being worn caused that bolt to break because the engine was moving around more.
I've ordered an uprated road version from Evol engineering. I'm not too bothered about a bit of extra vibration even though the Clio is my daily driver, I...
