Choosing a head, 182 vs 172, replacing the valves and general head replacement

Hey guys, Sorry about all these basic questions, these Clios aren't really like all the other cars i've pulled apart. I can rebuild a small block Chev or a Volvo B23 with my eyes closed, but my eyes are not calibrated for all these cams and all these valves... plus they're not interference...

    Loosening the camgears

Cam gears I have no idea. They were last tightened when the cambelt was replaced at a shop, 5000km's later, snappy snappy. Sorry for the newbie question: With the tool, comes a little metal clip majigger. What is it? Cheers

    Loosening the camgears

Hi guys, Any tips on how to get the b******s off? I have the genuine Renault locking tool in place (with the correct extended gear and the spacers) but I can't get enough torque into the 18mm bolts on the camgears, It just loosens the bolt on the tool thats holding the cog. A real pain. Using...

    182 head on a 172 bottom end

Can it be done? My 172 head is toast, 16 bent valves. I have a nice 182 head with rocker cover, but the 172 intake is different to the 182. Can I put the 172 rocker cover on the 182 head?

172 Cambelt replacment, parts and head overhaul

I can see your concern, I hope this helps: Renault has a long history with my family, so there is no chance of that happening! My grandfather was a motor mechanic and rallied R8's and R10's among other things... and he owned a dealership in the 70's and 80's that dealt exclusively with Renault...
