Great, thanks guys. Will definitely look into those potential fixes and report back.
@shaun442k, reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one who's had this issue.
My 182 Trophy has had an increasing number of start-up gremlins since I bought it in July. Always starts but the degree of hesitation and urgency is somewhat variable! Sometimes, it's like it can only just muster up enough energy to bumble into life and settle to idle. Problem seems to get worse...
I didn't get on so well with these, just couldn't get enough heat into them to melt the solder. In the end, I linked the bare ended wires by twisting together, then used a more traditional soldering method, followed by heat shrink and then electrical tape. Nice solid connection for both wires...
I bought my Trophy back in the summer, at what might be considered to be the lower end of the current market due to mileage mainly (a mere 115k, so nothing in 172/182 terms really). Great service history and have spent a few quid on it over the last couple of months doing lots of...
Thanks @bloke.
That'll be the little silvery band in the middle of the tubes then. So, bare end the wires, pop them in each end and apply soldering iron then!
i have a new TDC sensor and loom to fit, supplied by Renault with the updated blue connectors.
The loom is supplied as a connector with two wire tails, which clearly need stripping back and joining up with the car-side loom somehow. Two, what can only be described as, small clear plastic...
I'm afraid not.
I know a Renault trained mechanic who did the job for me, along with a load of other 'hard to do' bits!
Shame about the lack of fuel pressure test point, makes things a little more challenging from a diagnosis point of view!!
@Dan@SJM, sounds like a good plan.
I see that a basic fuel pressure test kit is only around £25-30 online. Just had a look under the bonnet...where is the fuel pressure test point on the F4R, as it certainly isn't obvious (to me at least)!
What sort of pressures should I be looking for on...
Useful info, thanks @Dan@SJM.
Sometimes it starts up quick as you'd expect on the key. Sometimes it just sort of stumbles into life but never had to resort to a second turn of the key so far! Quickest starts are often when it's been left for a while. The slow, just about kick into life starts...
@R3k1355, the car is on 115k and drives superbly. I've been doing quite a bit of servicing/overhaul work since I bought it anyway, including all the usual stuff like battery, oil/filter, coolant/thermostat/water pump, discs/pads, spark plugs, leads, coil pack, injectors, cambelt/depahser etc...
Thanks @Dan@SJM, much appreciated.
Would a tired non-return valve or FPR in the fuel pump assembly cause start-up issues/hesitation, or is that more likely to be due to TDC sensor, earths, starter motor?
Please can someone provide a description of where the fuel non-return valve and fuel pressure regulator are situated on a 182 F4R? Are they both built into the fuel pump assembly under the rear seat?
If anyone has a diagram of the fuelling system, even better!!
Having done a bit more research, I'm wondering whether a weak fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator at the tank end is leading to incomplete/poor priming at the head end on start-up?
There also seem to be a few reports of VPower 99 fuel causing similar start-up issues due to it's viscosity...
Ever since I bought my 182 Trophy in July, it's started up in one of two ways:
1) Rifle quick on the key, no hesitation or stuttering, settling to idle immediately
2) Hesitant, turning over fine and sparking then eventually creeping into life and settling to idle
As the car has a new battery...
Fixed this today. Turned out that just one of the four pins in the fog light multi-connector behind the front bumper was heavily corroded. A quick clean up of the pin and corresponding socket sorted the issue and the fog light is now working again.
Yep, that's the one and exactly what I just fitted to mine to cure an ABS/ESP light fault. The ATE part from Eurocarparts even has the OE number stamped on it and it's a fair bit cheaper than the item from Renault.
Still not having much luck diagnosing the issue with my nearside front fog light. Will have the bumper off soon to replace the AC condenser, so can have a closer look then.
Anyone had the same issue?
Dryer was around £20 delivered for a brand new Delphi unit, from an eBay seller. He contacted me straight after the purchase to confirm compatibility/fitment, which was a nice touch.
Sam at Renparts has just sorted me with a good quality used item, for delivery next week. I've bought a brand new Delphi dryer unit to go with it :smile:
Thanks guys.
Mister Auto do two versions by NRF including a dryer for sub-£75. One is 510x380mm (x16mm deep), the other is 510x376mm (x16mm deep). Does anyone happen know the width of the standard OE 182 unit or is 4mm too little to even worry about with the fixing points...
The AC condenser on my 182 Trophy is past its best and could do with replacing. I'm sure plenty of people will have fitted replacements by now. Has anyone had any particularly good experiences with aftermarket condenser brands?
I've used EIS from eurocarparts in the past for other cars and been...
Update - fitted an ATE brand rear right ABS sensor supplied by Eurocarparts (even has the correct Renault part number printed on it but is less than half the price of an OE item!) and the issue seems to have resolved itself for the time being, with no more dash lights.
The chap who fitted the...
Slightly strange one, as it's just the near side front fog light that isn't illuminating. I've tried a new bulb but no change. The feed for both front fogs is common until you get to the splitter behind the near side fog light...how strange that the offside still illuminates fine!
Could this...
Your 'manual' AC (like the Trophy model) has cables attached to the back of it but I think the full climate control system uses electrics, so it's not a straight swap.
Hold out for a replacement heater panel if you can...my original is in a similar flakey state and I managed to source a...
Great to read this! My Yanoo Stiff Shift 3.0 kit with brass bushes and new gearbox end bush arrived today! The fitting instructions look quite involved though.
Based on some threads I've read on cs.net, some have suggested that the ATE items listed for 182/Trophy (with ESP) are correct for the rear and even come with the Renault part number printed on the cable.
For example, see Post #11 in http://www.cliosport.net/threads/n-s-rear-abs-sensor.73049...
Look in the product details, as some are for cars with ESP (or ASR) and some are for cars without. Being a Trophy, you'll need the ones for an ESP equipped car.
