Yes the dash isn't great in the phase 1 but if your into that sort of thing your looking at the wrong car. There a many more annoying flaws that they still hadn't rectified in the last of the 182's, s**t driving position, bus steering wheel, non retracting drivers seat belt, need I go on!

Its a daily driver and I do probably 15-20k/ year in it, I want something half decent out the box don't really want to mod it, I ve got a weekend car for that.

Agree it does feel like an old shed, but despite the driving position its good to drive, I don't want to lose that feel by changing for a 182.

I prefer the power delivery of the diesel, a non RS clio is never going to be particularly fast so you may as well get the one with the most useable amount of power which in my experiences is the dci, £35 tax, decent mpg and decent residuals. Pick of the bunch bar the 197.

Seem to be around £4k for a decent one, I don't want something with more miles than the PH1 (68k at present), a 182 can be had for £5k a couple of years newer.

I like the 172 cups but they seem to be about the same price as 182's.

As main dealers go Renaults hourly labour rate is quite low, your looking at £100 +/ hour for Toyota, VW, Audi etc.

I guess the book time is something like 0.6, most charge £70/hr then theres £4 for the bulbs plus the vat, sounds about right to me.

What sort of power/ torque does a remap give on a 150bhp 1.8t. How does the compare to a 1*2?

If the front discs are fudged then you would have to change the pads aswell, wouldn't really recommend putting your 'old' pads on new discs. Ask for the measurements on the discs, its done as part of every Renault service.

A decent 16v 1.2 will do 80mph in 3rd and 100mph in 4th, well mine used to, thats at around 6k.

Some people will pay over the odds for a car if the rights sort of thing comes up and they can't be arsed to travel/ look/ haggle, its lazyness and often the fact they are spending the banks rather than their own hard earned cash.

I think £4k with the belts done would be a reasonable figure, I work in the trade but I would wait for someone like Daniel to come along before juming to any conclusions.
