Currently fully refurbishing a used set of front calipers and carriers I bought on ebay, a full bead blast, prime and paint affair and just curious as to how much I'd likely get for them?
I'll be fitting these ones to my Trophy and wondering if it'd be worth it financially to then do them too...
Good enough for me, cheers.
Can you recommend where to get the front brake hoses? Just looking for standard, no braided lines or any of that.
There are Pagid ones on carparts4less and Mister Auto list quite a few but lengths seem to vary somewhat so not sure what to go for.
Are the Bigg Red seal kits good quality?
Brakeparts are currently out of seal kits for 3-4 weeks unless I fancy paying £20 for an express order- which I do not funnily enough.
I wish the sorts of people who did this sort of thing stuck to other areas and not cars.
The sort that know the price of everything but the value of nothing.
The suspension has been checked over, showing no signs of leakage or damage.
So a roundabout way of saying the dampers haven't been touched in 12 years yet I'll ask for £4500 over the original sticker price.
As an owner, I'm all for the values going up but this is utter lunacy.
Now thinking I'll get a cheap pair of used calipers off ebay so the car isn't stuck off the road and refurbish them myself. I work in industry so I'll be able to bead blast them and paint them no problem.
Think I'll replace the front brake hoses too while I'm going to that extent, if that...
Curious at the minute-
Clio Trophy on 93k miles, generally good condition, cambelt not due until 2020 but Sachs dampers need a refurb (currently on cup springs and dampers) A/C and cruise control don't work.
Aye.
It's more that the right side isn't braking as well as the left side. Hopefully it's just the sliders needing freed otherwise I'm tempted to get an old pair of calipers off ebay and send them off to Bigg Red for a refurb.
My initial thoughts would be a caliper (assuming front right?) although it's a bit odd.
When braking as hard as possible it's more or less negligible, it's more for the moderate to fairly hard braking braking that it does it.
It starts off worse if the brakes haven't been 'exercised' for a...
I suppose even if I did get them done and didn't notice a big enough difference it'd still be easier to sell the car and recoup the cost vs. selling with the dampers needing done.
If it came to that I'd fancy another 182 and put the extra funds towards a third car.
The reason I'm asking is my Trophy is on cup springs and dampers at the minute (front) because one of the sachs dampers was leaking slightly and needs a refurb. They were previously done in 2013 by Cornering Force.
Now I didn't notice an issue in driving the car hard while on the sachs dampers...
And imagine it coupled with an ugly aftermarket CD player that was sticking too far out as well. The dials are so bad because the previous owner had put some cheap as hell fake carbon fibre paper around it, when I hauled it off that's what I was left with.
Now my steering column radio controls...
Knocking on for 2 and a half years after I started this thread, finally-
Replaced the god awful looking aftermarket CD player while I was here.
My take on this is, if you're purely doing this for cosmetic reasons don't arse about with all the connections behind the heater panel, just get...
Jesus Christ, are you the only person that's realised this?
I didn't even know it was an option, just hauled off the front there from the new one I've got, utterly simple. Why do people replace the whole thing if it's just a cosmetic issue?
I trust there's enough wiggle room in the cables to...
Decided to start this tonight, what an absolute b*****d.
How on earth do you get a grip of those cable clips in 14 and 15 to pull out? Is there a knack?
I think the exhaust is the culprit to be fair, there's a bodged weld holding on part of it I'm told and two different garages have looked over all the mounts and suspension components.
One of the guys who looked at it is a current workmate who was just giving his old boss a help, I know first...
Shocks changed but it seems this is none of the usual culprits and is actually a problem with the exhaust. The flange where the exhaust manifold joins the cat is knackered and some of the pipework itself just up from that, mechanic says something there seems to be hitting off the anti-roll bar...
Front sachs are needing to come off for a refurb and I have cup parts ready to swap on. My question is should I swap out the rear ones as well to match or is it fine to just put the front cup ones on and leave the original rears in place?
I'll still be properly driving the car in this time and...
Mmm well they said they couldn't find anything else and they agreed the sound seemed to be from the front right. Both engine mounts themselves were replaced less than 8k miles ago with Renault parts.
I'll keep the dogbone in mind though if it isn't the shock or top mount. Previous owner put...
Maybe a case of not seeing the forest for the trees, just never thought a shock could make such a knock unless it was going over bumps.
I've got a spare cup set I'll swap to anyway while the sachs are off so it'll be easy to find out anyway. Cheers.
Garage found a tie road had a decent amount of play in it but replacing it hasn't stopped the knock. They couldn't find anything else.
Is there a chance a shagged top mount could be the culprit? Looks like my sachs dampers are needing refurbed so when they come off I'll be able to see.
Edit...
Long story short, I have a rusty rear wing in my Boxster and once the rust is removed I don't want it to come back.
Are there any recommended body shops around this area preferably (but will travel a bit for the right person in Scotland) that are willing and able to properly cut the rusty...
Haven't got it in the garage yet but I did notice the sound as I switched off the engine the other day so that screams engine mount to me.
They were replaced last year so could it just be a case of them needing moved/realigned somewhat?
