Self service - keeping a record of this in service book ?

I think even if your just doing basic servicing, so long as you keep the car long enough the savings would eventually outweigh the worth of an official full service history. If you do things like change the brake pads and discs which is almost as straight forward as servicing then the savings...

Self service - keeping a record of this in service book ?

I always do my own mechanical work, including the cambelt on the clios I've owned (despite what people say on here, it's one of the easiest cars to do the cambelt on and almost impossible to get the timming wrong) and I've not had any issue with reselling the cars as of yet, but I think I...

    Would this throw tracking/alignment out?

If I so much as breathe too heavily on my steering wheel it will go out of alignment, I give up getting it aligned. Adding spacers will normally require re-alignment.

Ah gutted. The waterpumps not so bad, I replaced mine with a £19 one from eurocarparts.

    MOT FAILURE - EMMISSIONS

Any factors will sell CV boot kits they cost about £6-8, they come in split and stretch boots, you'll want a split boot that you glue the slit together unless you know someone who has the tool to fit the stretch boots (they are better and last way longer). Both kits come with the clips that have...

Video of loud running gear noise, any ideas?

Don't know what it could be, but you could try and put it up on axel stands (proper safe job), start it up shove it in gear and try and locate the sound?

    puzzling noise ?

You can see the water pump weep hole from under the car if you remove the arch liner, if you've got pleanty of coloured anti freeze in it then it should be easy to spot if its been dribbling. The water pump is here: And the weep hole is here on the pump:

    P0304 Ideas?

If you changed the plugs I assume you're fine with whipping the manifold off, a compression tester only costs about £15-25, just a guage that screws in to the spark plug hole, cheaper than a garage would charge to do it I think.

    puzzling noise ?

Mine started doing this a few weeks ago, found the waterpump to be dribbling drips through the weep hole must have washed the bearing out. Replaced it and now it's fixed. It's a serious b*stard of a job though so would advise checking everything else as other things on the aux belt can sound...

How do i lock the flywheel to remove the crank pulley, engine in car

Not seen one of them engines but on the clios it's at the back by the driveshaft. Quite easy to miss unless you get right under with a good torch.

Judder when moving off in first gear.

If the handbrake has been overtightened easy way to tell is jack one of the rear wheels off the floor and spin them, if it doesn't spin freely it's too tight. Easy to fix, there's a nut under the car where the handbrake is, on the sports its hidden behind the exhaust heatshield, just turn it...

Is this garage having my pants down?

I think the idea of the dephaser in some way causing one of the timing tools not to fit is top quality nonsense, I just can't see a way it could happen. If it's the camshaft locking tool that wont fit, it's because the timing is out (or in my case some garage had mangled the slots in the...

    Newb here...! Coolant loss...

Depends how much you paid for the car, if it was only a few hundred quid then scrapping it and cutting your losses at a couple hundred quid could be worth more to you than the hassle of fixing it. That said, if you've got a decent collection of tools, waterpumps and cambelts arn't that...

    Need Help ASAP

I used to have the same problem when I worked nearby. The drive to work wasn't long enough to replace all the charge used to start the car, only say 95% or something, so the battery would die over a period of 20 days or so if I didn't charge it. The problem was fixed when I got a job further...

    Need Help ASAP

Could it be that a 30min drive just isn't long enough to replace what the starter motor took out to start the car and the battery slowly drains over a period of 3 weeks until dead?

    Wynns Hydraulic Lifter Treatment

I personally don't like these additives, reminds of "belt dressing" I once saw someone use to fix a squeaky belt that was too tight. The squeak did go away, but the belt was still too tight! I think these products work off the principle of "out of sight out of mind". I've owned a few 172's and...

    Newb here...! Coolant loss...

Not to suggest you have been given wrong advice, but experience of draining my wallet has taught me to diagnose a problem before throwing parts at it and hoping it was the problem. Coolant loss is one of them problems thats a swine to diagnose as it gets pumped everywhere and could be lost at...

If it isn't coming out externally it must be going somewhere internally, have you checked for steam coming out of the exhaust or water in the oil?

    cam belt change

I haven't long done this on mine, I sure wish I knew a full cambelt change kit existed for £315! You don't need to change the oil but it's probably best with a new dephaser. You may as well get the alternator belt changed too since it will have to come off to do the cambelt and you get a new...

    A good combat flight sim?

IMO DCS A-10 is by far the best combat flight sim about, but its learning curve is steep! Took me about 6months to fully learn it.
