182 front wiper mechanism failed a second time

That's a really interesting piece of information... I'm going to take the mechanism out tomorrow and check to see. It does feel like something's snapped or come off though because the driver side feels like it isn't connected to anything [I can move it around with my hand] while the passenger...

    Great... thanks for that guys.

182 front wiper mechanism failed a second time

Thanks so much Billy... that's the same part number on the assembly that was given to me with the car. Are there links to the the people breaking 182s here ?

182 front wiper mechanism failed a second time

Thanks for this Billy, really helpful. I'll have put a shout out to see if anyone's breaking a 182... there are a few standard Mk2 Clio ones on eBay which is why I was wondering if they were the same as the 182.

182 front wiper mechanism failed a second time

Thanks for getting back to me... hope it's something simple like that. You mean the entire assembly is identical on all UK Mk2 Clios ? They all have the left hand drive wipe i.e, clear the passenger side more than the driver's side ?

182 front wiper mechanism failed a second time

Shortly before I bought the car, the owner had replaced the front wiper mechanism - he gave me the one he removed in a box. The replacement one now appears to have failed today [in the pouring rain :(]. I haven't taken it apart yet, so don't know what's gone wrong but it would seem the...

    Intermittent P0130

I've posted another thread elsewhere but have been low on useful responses, so apologies for doing it a second time here. I'm getting a P0130 code on my 182. I've replaced both O2 sensors. The precat is switching as expected [from around 0 to 750mV] and the post cat is sitting somewhere...

    Parts discontinued by Renault

Good thread. I just discovered the 182 PAS pump is no longer available. Anyone able to recommend somebody good who rebuilds them for a reasonable price ?

It's all I've got access to unfortunately :(

    Lambda O2 Sensors on 182

A few more questions Louis, I hope you can help with. I bought a new Renault post cat sensor and fitted it this evening. We hooked up the Solus again to look at live data. The post cat sensor sat at 410mV or so until the engine temp reached 91C and then started to fluctuate... it eventually...

    PAS pump replacement

My pump's very noisy... sounds like I have a supercharger... I'm not using the car on track and just wondered if anyone had gotten a decent standard pump off eBay or elsewhere they'd recommend ?

    Lambda O2 Sensors on 182

That's good to know. The post cat sensor was registering 410mV whether plugged in or out. I think that value is an ECU generated default ? When I plugged the post cat sensor cable into the pre-cat sensor, it registered 1.295V and stayed at that value. Does that make sense ?

    Lambda O2 Sensors on 182

The pre-cat Lambda sensor was recently replaced on my 182 and it's still posting a fault code. So a friend and I hooked a Solus up today and looked at the voltage being sent by each of the sensors using a live data run. We then unplugged each sensor to see effect. It would seem that the post...

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@Vaughan In post 142 he's just slotting it in to show us that it went easy. You're right, it would be bolted in when you're doing the job. In terms of car performance, mine drove absolutely fine with the timing out. It pulled fine through the rev range and topped out nicely too. All the...

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

Ya it sounds like you've the same problem as the rest of us ! Your procedure's more or less right. Do check the position in the window on the bell housing though and make sure you use the Renault tool to lock the pulleys and NOTHING ELSE ! Given that so many people are suffering from this...

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

In terms of MAP sensors etc... I've swapped the MAP sensor a few times and it's not made any difference. You can pick them up second hand on eBay for about a tenner, so it's a cheap thing to try out and 'eliminate from your inquiries' if you're minded to do so. It's probably not worth it...

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@jinjur So sorry for not dipping in here... notifications are no longer coming through on eMail to me and I was really busy with work. You seem to have done everything right and if your MAP reading is 400-500, you're fine. The F4R is a lumpy motor but there's certainly a difference between...

No it was the crap tool not holding the pulleys stationery.

@jinjur Your procedure above sounds spot on. The horseshoe will enable you to turn and align the camshafts when everything's locked up.

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@jinjur One more thing before I jump off... just noticed a guy with a racing 172 on FB called Leslie Graham who has photos and footage of himself at Kirkistown. It would be worthwhile making contact with him to find out who does his engine work. https://www.facebook.com/Magpie9000

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@jinjur Just to but into your's and @bloke 's conversation there. A few points : o There are two Renault 'factory' pins. The one for the 2.0 F4R is quite specific and is a single bore cylinder from the handle to the end. There's another one produced by Renault that has two cylindrical bores...

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@jinjur The racing guys I know use Martin Tracey (Westward Engineering) in Enfield Co. Meath. He does tuning and engine building and they highly recommend him. You can reach him at http://www.westwardeng.com. Hope that works out OK.

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@jinjur The problem sounds identical to mine. I'll have an ask around some of the racing fraternity I still know back home in Ireland to see who they might be able to recommend to do it for you.

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

You're right, sorry. I ought to have said that the dephaser operation was as expected. Variable valve timing via cam phasing is not the same as the adjustable valve lift [e.g. on a VTec].
  25. Davyboy888

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

@R3k1355 I haven't noticed any difference in mid range or peak power. With the timing 'out' the car performed well through the rev range and the dephaser kicked in when expected. The problem was on idle and pick-up from idle where it seems the high MAP reading was leading to incorrect fuelling.
  26. Davyboy888

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

Thanks for that. Ya me too. I'd imagine most garages would use an aftermarket tool as the Renault one is so expensive. Maybe they can get them to work, but it certainly didn't work for me. Before you do anything with injectors etc... you'll need to get the timing rechecked. Adjusting the...

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

Sorry for the radio silence... I didn't know anyone had posted on the thread, thought I'd set up alerts but they never arrived :( OK, I bit the bullet and bought the proper Renault timing tool kit and set about redoing the timing on Thursday and Friday. It solved the problem. It's idling a...

£30k to spend, what performance car?

If you want to experienced high performance for in/around £30K, forget everything you've seen on this thread so far. This thing will eat them all alive around a track https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/82963/dallara-f3024

Lumpy idle / tick over on 182

Yes. Injectors are definitely another weak point on these engines. They slowly deteriorate, then fail. When one fails, the ECU issues an error code and switches it off, placing you on three cylinders. I bought my car with a failed injector which was an easy fix. There are two crude tests...
