Finished photos as promised. Pretty happy with it. Car was finished with Zymol Glasur wax, and this morning a quick Auto Finesse Glisten coat to finish her off. Windows treated with Gtechniq G5.
I've never used a DA so can't say but I don't get any phantom vibrations as you say, it's plenty smooth enough. I've used rotary polishers for whole days back to back before now whether at home or my old job.
I've only got a cheap Silverline machine at home which I wouldn't recommend lol. It...
I wouldn't be scared about a rotary, there are lots of horror stories but they are great polishers. It'd make a versitle tool for you as you can get anything from tiny spot pads to 6" pads. Could get an extension bar to if you felt you need it.
I've just been over my 182 with ShineMate pads...
So whilst I've got a week off I decided to give the car a full exterior detail (and interior if I have time). I'll let the pictures do the talking, not much to add.
And then all washed, clayed etc:
Then got to work with the rotary. Teaser shot:
Will update when she's...
Thanks for the advice all - I'll stick with the standard setup then. May invest in a Scenic shifter as a cheaper alternative to something that won't cause damage - don't want to be spending out for a PMS if I'm honest. Potential to fab my own thing up maybe? Perhaps I'll consider a side project...
Yeah I understand that - you're not coming across as a c**k, it's a public forum and this is useful info for everybody :)
I'm an automotive engineer by profession so am fairly well versed with these things - my mechanical sympathy with a short shift pin installed would include the likes of not...
Yeah I didn't think it'd be a shim up job.
Yeah I understand that it's sped up as I said, but if I know that, then surely using more mechanical sympathy would help.
Thanks for the info all.
@NorthloopCup, are they poorly manufactured then? And I'm guessing there is too much play to be shimmed out?
Still comes back to the whole point of why a shorter pin makes them break - I'm still convinced that its a case of "oh ye boi I'm a racing driving now with mi...
That's pretty much my thinking and half the idea of the thread. I'm mechanically sympathetic and not out to destroy the running gear. I'd happily even rebuild the gearbox if it came to it and it's possible to buy the bits on their own!
Yeah I'm aware about sloppy feel with old bushes, but the physical throw is still x amount with the standard setup which feels a bit long still.
So if the throw lengths are similar to standard when moving to Scenic or PMS shifters, then they're on the most part installed only to change the...
But surely any of the kits that are installed will speed up the change time? Whether it's on the bottom of the stick or at the gearbox end, the same thing still happens...
I've been thinking about trying to reduce the throw of the standard 182 gear lever and see it's easy enough to fit a shorter pivot arm to do so. However everywhere I read on here it's always about modified scenic shifters or PMS ones. Why are people reluctant to use a reduced length pivot arm...
It completely transformed the ride! As you say, ride was terrible on Apex springs but the Eibach's are worlds apart. Can drive the car faster on the road because I'm not jumping across it so much. They're loads more compliant.
So I fitted some aero blades.
Badly fitted the yellow fogs, I'll redo them but wanted to get a feel for the look. There's also a bit if a following for the Renaultsport stuff here at work, I think there's 6 or so 172/182 here and a few Megane 225/R26s (the Meg's were developed by us (Ricardo)).
Cheers all!
In the near future, it'll be a service and a paint correction detail (as close as corrected I can get without buying loads more stuff). Paint the grills too and yellow fogs. Also got an original airbox to put on to make it a bit quieter.
Further future might include alcantara bits...
Had picture issues I've decided to try posting again!
So after parting with my sorely missed Focus ST, I decided I needed a fun, good value hot hatch. Enter the 182. Picked it up for going rates, its a 2004 Black Gold 182 with Cup suspension (not got the Cup spoiler pack oddly, something I'd...
Tidy car! USB install is nice. In my opinion, the suedette is too dark. The Clio uses a charcoal colour and yours looks more like black?
Has anyone on here managed to get something similar and have a link to suit? Would like to do the pillar trims and headlining on mine.
So I ended up treating myself to some ShineMate pads, including an 80mm spot pad and smaller backing plate. Going to get on this over Christmas, looking forward to seeing the results.
What's everyone using as their kit bags? I bought a new holdall the other day that I was going to send back as it wasn't what I expected, but found a good use for it.
Not bad for £10!
Hi all,
Took advantage of Auto Finesse's Black Friday offer last week and treated myself to some goodies. I just need some new pads for my rotary though now to get my kit up to scratch again (cheap pads on there for doing dads van).
I was looking at the Dodo Juice Fin Cut pads as they seem good...
Thanks for the input all. It's not that heavy at all to be honest (not what I'd call heavy anyway). Actual height its heavy but very near the top - sounds fairly normal. Might go digging around tomorrow and give her a couple of tweaks!
I believe the clutch is self adjusting on these but is there anyway to give it a bit more? Bite point is very close to the top (unless they're supposed to be like this?). Anyone have a photo of the ratchet mechanism? Is it worth buying a new cable?
It had a clutch about 10k ago, prior to my...
Yes I know, but in my opinion doesn't make for a fast road spring. The manufacture didn't look good either like I said also, sharp, unfinished cuts. Look like a poorly done fracture split.
