If you are using nVidia card, just install their binaries http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk unless you are saying the bug affects that too ?

I use software RAID5 on a linux box because it meets with the requirements of my level of protection, speed and capacity. If the data was mission critical then sure.. I would backup to elsewhere too and look into alternatives RAID10 with off site backups etc. overkill for my home video collection ;)

Enable boot logging, run normal startup.. wait for freeze.. restart in safe mode.. look at what caused it in boot log file. Fix. Profit.

My array is RAID5, but RAID5 != backup/safe etc.

I am using it as a cloud backup of my personal content... holiday photos, videos etc. should it go down I will re-upload the content elsewhere. Handy if my local storage goes tits up ;) Or at least I would be if the uploader worked !
