We've drilling the spot welds of all those needless brackets around the car, but haven't resorted to hole-sawwing just yet!! Watch this space though... need to write up what we've done so far. I'll hopefully get to that this weekend.
If you're trying to compare the weight released by Renault with your car, you'll be playing a bit of a guessing game..... I work in the weights department at JLR and so I'm up to speed on certified weights. Basically, the jist of it is, every production vehicle is certified at Base Curb Mass...
I've got a 1st Class Hons in Automotive Engineering with Motorsport from University of Hertfordshire and now work for Jaguar Land Rover.
...and you can't deny the unsprung mass, it's pure fact. Read up on it.
I'm sorry, but I totally disagree!
As an automotive engineer (yes, i'm using my degree here), my first impression is that the Lambo demonstrates the basic principals a lot better.
- Engine in the right place, better load transfer
- All wheel drive, better tractive effort
- Pushrod suspension...
I agree with Sam@BTM, why would you want to push for more power in an already highly tuned engine!?!?!? Be content with what you've got. Of course, if you get more aggressive cams, bigger injectors, a sequential box etc etc and turn it into what is basically a cup racer, then it'll be quicker...
Well, it's certainly not gonna be the alternator! If it's a burning smell inside the car and it comes from when you turn the rear demister on, it'll be a part of that electric circuit. My guess would be the terminals where it meets the rear screen. Pull off the boot trim, turn it on, then go for...
That kind of noise is usually akin to the synchromesh for those gears wearing out, which means a gearbox fix up. It is french after all, I went through a box in my old megane, they're not the most robust drivetrains
It's got to be an engine mount....if it was something to do with your flywheel that you could hear at idle, it would only get worse with increased load and engine speed! This lovely thing called inertia, it's science! Check the rubber mount isn't perished and if it's secured properly, I bet it's...
90 percent of girls don't know anything about cars and the CS's are the kind of cars you need to know about really, they're a bit steathly in that they look 99% similar to normal clios. My other car is a 1990 Toyota Supra (practically vintage) and my missus thinks that makes me a boy racer and...
The most common cause as far as I'm concerned is damaged valve guides. Abuse will cause the top end to burn oil and less oil means higher temps. Then, once there's a lack of lubrication for the stem to move up and down the guide, it just takes one instance of it failing to return to its closed...
Not at all, you'll only get them in 3m divisions anyway, and 3m is shorter than the car. Clio is 1.64m x 3.77m and you're gonna need some space to get around it, otherwise you'd do it in your garage!
You could always stick a couple of these in your driveway and that would hold anything down pretty nicely, more affective than sandbags. They can be very nicely concealed too!

If you can stick a structure on a patch of grass, or a gravel driveway where you can stick some pegs in the ground, you'll be able to tether it down nicely. Otherwise, a bit of weight on the corners will only help your case. The marquees we had are pinned in the corner and as such only go on...
I might be able to shed some light on this. I've been putting up marquees for quite a few years and have dealt with varying types of gazebos etc.
The cheap 3m x 3m gazebos are very much a cheap and cheerful option and can be reasonable, but the likelihood is, they will get damaged in a light...
Small update; the engine went in nicely. The two pics below show it just after it went in and then after we'd attached all the ancillaries. I did in fact fire it the other night, and it ran first time, but there was a little oil leak that needs remedying. So, hopefully, the next update will be a...
This was discussed the other day.....read this one: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?612458-2.0ltr-Conversion-Questions.
General consensus is you'd be foolish to spend the money doing it when you can quite easily just get a CS for very decent money!
I'm not saying don't have the imagination to try new things! Not at all....I've done a few engine swaps over the years and they can be very rewarding, but this one is definitely a case of throwing your money away I'm afraid. You start a project with a plan to spend a set amount and it will...
No, it's the fact that you're affectively looking to spend around 5 grand converting your 1.2 to sport (making it a replica) when the real deal costs less than that as it is!! Just buy a CS and you won't look back, go onnnn.... you know you want to. This is Cliosport.net after all, not...
I'll vouch for that too! I had a NA supra as my first own car, I did love it, spent quite a bit of time making everything the way I wanted and it was sad to see it go. But I bought a turbo supra as a replacement and I think I love it a little bit more....BOOOOOOOSSTT!!!!
I'm sorry, but I really don't know why this is a difficult decision.... I understand you love your current car, but you have to cut the ties at some point. Doing a conversion will cost you an absolute fortune and you wouldn't get anything anywhere near as good as a standard CS. I've done project...
Really getting moving now, not long 'til the turn key moment. After a few hours of pushing, pulling and grunting, the engine is back in!
I also had to change the engine mounts, as the old ones were split..... so, instead of spending 120 quid on some new ones, I made my own.
Firstly, I...
So, after another period of time of not getting much done, I've got back on it and made some really good progress.
Here's the block getting finished, with new ARP head studs.
The head going on, all torqued up to 110Nm! (i was nervous doing that)
Top end built up with newly painted cam...
