Do NOT get a Unichip or any other chip fitted by muppets (i.e the vast majority of garages as I discovered at my cost).
The F4R engine has a very unusual characteristic in that it seems to produce more power a while after you begin to get serious detonation due to a lean mixture. basically if...
200 without TBs is perfectly achievable
Its taken me a long while and a few mishaps with blown piston rings etc until I got the work done professionally.
Race spec flowed/ported head and inlet manifold, inlet and exhaust cams regrind, cat back exhaust, Unichip, BMC
From memory, the Eibach sports (not the pro kit) were about £110, the Koni Sports dampers were about £350, the fitting and geometry including front camber+ toe-in, rear shims + camber etc and road testing work cost me about £375, so altogether I would say £850-£900 but worth every penny.
By...
I have used the Eibach sport springs which lower the cup about 30mm with Koni adjustable sports dampers all round. Ive also had the geometry changed on the suspension to improve handling. The results was brilliant and worth a lot more than frigging around with marginal engine improvements.
actis is reno-speak for a bulletin that is circulated to all reno garages with a description of well known faults or procedures and how to fix them. there is such a note for fitting the front spoiler to the cup
cant look cos the cars at the garage, but reno have an aktis technical note showing precisely how this should be done including trimming etc. Just tell your local muppets to get their act together..
JJ, the clio racers have sealed engines and little scope to do any of that stuff. the only car Ive seen so far with this system is the JPsport cup which had a complex breather and sandwich plate sitting below the oil filter etc, etc.
Colins on the case anyway .. Im trying to gather some info...
Is the oil in the F4R gearbox the same as in the engine and do the two communicate. My reason for asking is that I saw a somewhat unusual oil breather system yeterday on a race cup at Jonathan Palmer and the crankcase breather fed to a plastic tank and from there a second pipe went straight back...
the cup brakes are perfect and will stand up to severe track abuse. As Ben said, its all down to how theyre applied. its sort of ok to sit on another cars rear bumper on a circuit if you both know what youre doing, but to do that behind a merc driven by an older person at 80mph round a corner is...
Ooooooh Niiice -- keep it coming girls n guys, Im savouring every moment -- youre adding to the pleasure ..
should I show up with helmet and race shoes or go for the total stealth-novice experience and interrupt the briefing session to ask if I should brake before or after the corners...
Any...
going to Jonathan Palmer Bedford cct this wed. Various exotica to be driven all day around the circuit. Needless to say the less well informed civilians will be making a dash for the various single seaters, Evos etc whilst yours truly will head straight for the CUP RACER (having been "briefed"...
unscrew the filter and remove it, buy some k&n filter cleaning and re-oiling (£10 for the kit). Follow instructions. 20 mins to clean, then let it dry + absorb the oil overnight, then put back.
do you have the compression values per cylinder in bar for the F4R, does 9.25, 10, 10.9, 9.8 for cylinders 1 to 4 (1 being the curb side, i.e furthest from the f/wheel) sound ok?
I would assume that an engine running lean would be detected and corrected during a remap. So theoretically, as the engine is nearing the 208bhp max theoretical injector limit, the mix would be getting leaner, causing temperatures to rise and gradually damaging piston rings, right? does a piston...
can you explain how insufficient fueling can ruin a piston ring please. My reason for asking is that on an F4R the injectors are good for 52bhp max (208 bhp), optimum at 168 bhp or so. If various modifications take the power to 195-200 or above, could lack of fueling cause a problem such as the...
ok, thanks
any idea what the normal compression readings per cylinder on the F4R should be? and +/- variance between them thats normal? Running a compression then leakdown test and would like to know if were getting the right results.
is the turbo block the same as on my F4R? do you have a rough idea where the return line ends up on it?
Otherwise, what is the best place to tap into the sump?
CHECK YOUR OIL LEVELS! The 172/cup uses up oil. Anybody with a new 172/cup which has gone from full to min oil in a few thousand miles, do yourself a favour and take the car to renault to be checked. The oil breather system on these cars is delicate and when driving the cars hard, the crankcase...
the two bolts on the metal bar come off. the metal bar itself comes off as it serves no apparent purpose other than securing baby seats. the rear seat back and bench come off easily. below the seat, you unscrew the black bolt. leave the gold one in place.
Youll save 19Kg doing that .. have fun
