Very old fashioned car talk.
Youd be far better buying a well used Clio thats been regularly serviced than a old woman who's never been above 3000 rpm on the way to the shops imo.
Its the way you look after it not the way you use it thats important
What i believe the ''bad part'' was, the timing marks on the inlet cam were cut slightly out so when timed to Ren spec, the inlet was actually timed wrong. The cam profile was fine.
Defo get a disklock as back up mate.
Seen plenty of listed as stolen recovered examples on ebay etc so they cant be tooooo hard to steel but suppose if they want it, they'll have it no matter what you do.
Could always get a tracking system. You can make them for £10 by using a old mobile phone
Funny thing is, if you advance the inlet cam a couple of degrees on the 428's (timed wrong to their markings) they acutally give more power. Trade off is the rough idle
Originally i had Piper regrinds and now im running 428's. The Pipers worked better with my set up, better quarter mile times and just feel more peaky, better acceleration but the 428's drive a lot smoother, nice smooth idle and good in town traffic.
If your not fussed about lumpy idle the...
As stated, they dont really respond to exhaust and filter on their own. Only worth doing in conjunction with other mods.
Cheapest and most hassle free way to get a good noticeable gain seems to be the JMS inlet.
iirc another suspect torque to bhp graph. Remember, rolling roads are not gospal. I got 167 @ the wheels which is roughly 197 @ the fly measured on one set of rollers then a few months later on another set got 182 @ the fly! Huge difference.
Cams dont get you 200. Wish they did but 190 is the...
His graph dosent make sense. Stock 172's make more torque than his graph makes modded. Altitude might make a difference but still the bhp and torque would match up ?
Funny you should say that, the first 428's were indeed the ''bad ones'' with the strange low down curve but these are fresh ''good'' replacements from cat cams. Made 165lb/ft of torque at Pauls only a few weeks ago (other mods too)
Dont bother with 428's their not worth the money. Im just back from a quarter miles and could only get a best of 14.6 @ 97. Got a 14.4 @ 99 with 300 quid Piper regrinds. The Pipers made me grim from ear to ear when i booted it, these 428's are flat compared :(
Forgot to add, i had at least a...
Find a friendly Renault dealer and get them to knock the vat off. Thats what i did and at the time managed to pick the one wheel i needed for about £140 - Expensive but too many bent ones kicking about. Their a dead soft wheel. Nice and light tho
Probably even worse doing that. You have one mount eliminating backwards movement keeping it ridgid yet allowing movement in the g/box and top mount thus causing unbalance.
With that photo, for it to break there must have been movement surely?
