I agree. Whilst I think the way I set it up would be functional and simple, I won't have it like that unless I have no choice. The switches are my current sticking point, because I don't understand the type of switch that's used. If I can work out exactly what I need I'll be looking to install...
I've always wondered why no-one seems to take the cruise control buttons from Renualt steering wheels and put them on after market wheels. I thought I'd give it a go today and it was pretty easy. Here's what I did. It's tested, but it's not finished yet.
I started with a wheel with the air bag...
Might have well been a race meeting on the day, there were a couple of these things pounding the track almost constantly all day...
There were four race teams carrying out full on testing as far as I could tell. Various cars.
It does appear that small bits of rubber can make such a noise! Obviously I'm pleased that's all it is!
Looks like the long strips of rubber are starting to come unstuck at one end and are slapping against the arch liners for a number of wheel revolutions until the whole section finally gives...
There is a lot of crap stuck to the tyres, but I'll be surprised if the excess rubber can be louder than stones! However I do like the lighting up idea - playtime tomorrow...
No worries, will measure in the morning.
Lol! If I knew that you weren't going to be cleaning your wheels every weekend, I'd take that as an offer!
It's on the to do list! (It's a long list)
I think if you disconnect the battery for a certain amount of time (20mins?) it's made safe, but if I was doing it I'd be leaving it for 6 hours of something stupid just in case! And I'd want the stuff the bomb disposal guys wear before I started to stick screwdrivers in random parts of the wheel!
It was so easy. Basically, what I did was give money to Mark Fish - he then did the work!
To be fair, I don't think it's difficult in the slightest, but I didn't fancy playing with the airbag. And as the car was in with him having the cage fitted it made sense.
All tyres take a few hundred road miles to bed in and give their best, but I'd imagine you could achieve the same in a handful of laps at Brands. Just take it slow to start with and build your pace up.
