Try usual things like, re-seat the card, seat it in a different slot if you can.. check bios is set to PNP if available, try NIC in different PC if it works you know its not the card for sure.
etc etc.. process of elimination..
Funny someone should bring up MS Money.. I am upgrading a persons desktop to XP (after installing more ram ofcourse) and noticed they had ms money installed.
I told them they would need the disc to re-install and I would make a backup of all their files ( I dont do OS upgrades, clean slate...

Already done it.. as in, in the past.. I still have an XGL system but dont have the wiimote configured for it anymore..

Thats what im saying the went part of the way by trying to write software to detect viruses and spyware, but not do anything about it.. just let the user know so they would have to buy anti-virus software to get rid of it.
I would hazard a guess that MS is already planning to buy over a few...

Course the fact that it WAS meant to detect malicious code (read viruses) and flag them up (not clean or delete them) is another matter..

Well you cant install vista from scratch.. with the free upgrade you HAVE to install XP first then install the upgrade, which in my eyes leaves your hard drive very untidy and causes all...
