Yeah blue Velvet was the one I was looking at...seen some good reviews, but always take them with a pinch of salt, seems to be a lot of people buying the range that have never used wax before so they don't have much to compare them to.
All reviews much appreciated - I always try to rate...
The new Dodo hard waxes are meant to be good, was looking at the one for darker cars for when the 476s runs out, but think it will be hard to beat.
Want to do another review once you have tried it lol?!
(I might need to pay a subscription fee to Treen Enterprises lol)
Yeah, Collinites can be hard to do thinly. And a bugger to get off in the cold, seems to bond like concrete! Bloody love the stuff though. Is the Collinite Marque D'Elegance wax as durable do you know at all, or meant to look better?
Durability...should have gone with the 476s/ Onyx route mate! Although I did go a bit mad and use about 5 products underneath them. Seems to have worked well though, I am pretty sure it would survive a nuclear attack!
Ha thanks - having personal reviews for products - what an honour! ;)
Seriously try the spray method before getting down and dirty, makes it a lot quicker.
I know what you mean about the grill, once you buff off the New Look it goes back to the satiny finished you mentioned. They use a...
Yeah, fair play, had heard a few reviews of it and as it was designed for aerospace use thought it might be quite durable. Ah well. Will try the 476s around the window seals - around the side windows though nothing looks good for long as water collects there.
Something I used last time I...
:(
You tried that Aerospace 303 stuff Rich, heard that was fairly durable otherwise, although not the same glossy finish the WOW has on application?
I'd sacrifice initial looks for durability on plastics, I hate doing it on the Clio, the front grill and mesh areas and fog lights makes me sad...
At least the paint will be well protected, so will be easier and quicker to clean next time.
Getting a car dirty is always going to happen, well unless your name is Rich maybe ;)
Yeah the 476s and Onyx combo works really well. In 8 weeks, all I have done is wash the car once and QD it, and still looks brilliant. This might be due to lack of driving, only done about 75 miles in that time to go to the gym and back!
Just shown me I have perhaps spent too much time adding...
Yeah cheers Rich. So looks like I am buying another product I don't really need by sounds of things...might still get it for customer cars though, they like shiny plastic!
Even non-waxed paintwork still beads though! Should still be there though presuming you don't wash it all the time.
476s for prime minister? ;) Gets my vote. Its a great wax, also use it on the wheels too. Although have been thinking about the Zymol Carbon. Worth the upgrade Rich or not you...
As long as your paint is well polished and cleaned, the Onyx will be brilliant.
If not, don't expect miracles, the wax is the final stage in a long process, especially with a black car.
Onyx is the nuts though if your preparation is good.
Should be fine to polish as soon as it comes out the bodyshop really, no advantages leaving it afterwards. In fact, most bodyshops polish surfaces up once they come out an oven...
Think both are pretty much of a muchness, otherwise wait a bit or the new Meguiars one maybe, although its not been...
Not sure if this is true, but I seem to have the impression that P21s and Harlys are the same wax in different tins? Could be wrong, but p21s definitely brands the same product as something else though...
Depends how much you have to spend.
I have a few, at the moment Chemical Guys XXX and 50/50, Collinites 476s and Swissvax Onyx. The Onyx is definitely the best, but all the others do diferent things, the 476s is very very durable for example.
Even the XXX which is about £11ish is extremely...
At home I do it once a week, but at uni only done it once in 7 weeks so far :o Haven't been driving that much, and so stays pretty clean. Plus when I do it now its much more satisfying.
Having said that, can't WAIT to get home in December and give it a mid-winter detail, definitely going to go...
Yeah...although polishing "a few times a month" is crazy!!! I polish mine once or twice a year properly (e.g. with a PC and slightly abrasive polishes) but even pre-PC I was only SRPing about 3 or 4 times a year. Get a decent sealant and/or wax on there - all about creating a protective coating...
Porter Cable is very easy to use, and well weighted, so most people start with that. Rotarys are more powerfull so can do more corrective work, but in the wrong hands can cause damage, and in untrained hands can leave marks in the paint which looks worse than swirls.
The UDM is a new competitor...
TBH honest if you take your time, prep the surface well, mask everything off and check your work as you go along you will be fine.
The hardest thing I found when I started was avoiding flicking polish everywhere! Pleased to say I have mastered this problem now!
Oh, and another little tip, if...
I wasn't aware AG made a wax...?
I would go for the CG 50/50 or P21s as a starter wax, although even the CG XXX wax is really good for the money. Sadly I never use mine anymore due to having the Onyx, which is brilliant.
I think people will assume as its so cheap its rubbish, but its cheap because its produced on such a massive bulk. It will probably be produced under license by someone like Turtle anyway.
Not used it myself, but my buckets are 80p jobbies from Wilkinsons and are perfect, even have...
Yeah, shame the transformer costs almost half as much as the PC when I bought it. That will be a good benefit of a UK specific machine, the transformer weighs a ton too!
