'special' can be set to about OE firmness and a bit above that, the sports ones can go very hard if you want them to, but can still go quite soft, stiffer than OE but still with a lot of give
not sure about Halfords own brand of pads, but the others they stock are Ferodo Premier, which for a normal road pad id say were about the best you can get IMO

depends on which engine you have mate, but on the earlier ones the plugs are at the front of the engine
follow the leads and you will find em, be careful pulling the leads off, always grab them near to the plug at the boot on the end, dont pull the cable itself
